Finally on GoodReads!

Don't ask why it took me so long to join GoodReads. I have no idea. It might have to do with the fact that I - so foolishly! - believed I didn't need any more ways or encouragement to find and read and talk about books.

But, as you can see on the side bar, not only did I join, but I signed up for the 2013 Reading Challenge, broadcasting that I will indeed read a minimum of 100 books this year (whoo hoo, 2 read, 98 to go!)

Since I'm relatively new on there, I'd love for you all to give me any tips and pointers in the comments on how to use it best. I'm still exploring the site and filling out my profile, but if you want to "friend" me (is that what it's called?), please feel free!

  1. If you link direct to your page, we'll be able to find you! I'm very bad at finding people on Goodreads, I stumble upon them by accident usually!

  2. I'm not really sure how to best use Goodreads, I mostly use it to keep a record of what I've read. There's a lot of promotion going on that passes me by, and some discussion groups that ebb and flow. In any case, sent you a friend request.

  4. Annalisa - I couldn't seem to make that work (no big surprise there!) but if you click on Currently Reading on the sidebar, it should bring you to my shelves/profile. I'll look for you, too, the next time I'm on it.

    Alex - thanks!

Moody - keeping track of what I want to read, have read etc is about all I'm doing at this point. Although, I did enter a few giveaways... :)

Stacy - thanks! See you there.

  5. I love Goodreads but I don't really have any tips, I always feel like I am flying blind on all of these social media sites. But I'm glad you joined! Heading over to friend you now. :)

  6. Have fun with goodreads! I love it myself. The trivia game has me addicted. :)

It's a great way to keep up with what you've read and the books on your to-read list, and I really like connecting with other readers. As a writer, I think being able to see how readers react to books, to get honest feedback on what works and what doesn't on books I've also read, is a priceless tool.

  7. Julie - thanks! And you know I hear you about flying blind re social media. :)

Tina - oh no, there's a trivia game, too! I'm going to have to start making sure I get all my work done before I sign on each day. :)

  8. Yay! Welcome to the awesomeness of Goodreads. I mostly use it to keep track of what I have read and want to read, but sometimes I enter the book giveaways (look under the 'Explore' tab up top). I'm only a member of one group on the site, but I think it's great: the What's the Name of that Book group, which helps people figure out the titles of books they remember bits of but can't find. It's come in handy twice for me and it's fun to help other people with their searches. Have fun exploring!

  9. Jillian - that sounds like a fun group! Oh, and I've already found the giveaways - my poor bookshelves - the "real" ones, not the virtual ones. :)

  10. I'm sure I'm not using Goodreads to its full potential, but it's the easiest way of keeping track of what I want to read.

And good luck with 100 books! My mind boggles at that - I was happy with 26 last year, averaging one every fortnight. Although one of them took me three months! :)

  11. Nick - at least you're reading! From what I understand a lot of people, a lot of writers, don't. Eek!

  13. Wow, 100 books??? Dang! I'm trying this challenge out for my first time and cringe a little at my commitment to only 50! Go on with your bad self, gurl! :-)

  14. Mina - 50 books is nothing to sneeze at! Like I mentioned above to Nick, a lot of people don't read at all. Good luck with your challenge!

  15. 100 books? Holy crap! I'm on Goodreads, but other than rating books I've read, I don't really know what to do with it. I'll find you over there, though! Mwahaha...

  16. I'll try and find you on Goodreads. To be honest, the site still baffles me quite a lot, so I need to get to grips with it myself...

  17. Simon - I'll look for you, too. And I hear you - there's so much going on over there, it's easy to get overwhelmed...but in a good way. I mean, look at all the books! :)
