Motivational Monday

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE
WHO WAIT . . .
GREATER THINGS COME TO THOSE
WHO GET OFF THEIR ASS AND
DO ANYTHING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
(Unknown)

I've been getting off my ass this August - literally (stand-up desk!) and figuratively (story collection, new WiP!)

Whether you're vacationing, starting something new, or completing a project, are you on top of it? Are you doing it on purpose? Are you making August count?

The summer is almost over! Let's go!

  1. My day job has been demanding lately, and I don't see it ending anytime soon. I do have some conventions/shows to attend, but writing has definitely taken a back seat.

  2. Oh, a stand-up desk. You'll have to let us know who that goes. I'm getting a recumbent bike this winter so I can read while I pedal during the cold months. Then I won't feel guilty for sitting on my butt for hours.

    1. I hope to do a post about the stand-up desk soon.

I like the idea of a recumbent bike, but I'm pretty sure it would just end up turning into a clothes hanger. :)

  3. I love that quote! So many people want things and complain about not having them. I have to tell my friends and family to get up and do something. We're not going to get what we want by complaining that we don't have it.

  4. Nothing I do in August is on purpose. I've still got the kids at home for another 3 weeks, so that won't end any time soon :-( I've lost count of the number of times I've ended up watching a kids programme because the kid watching it just walked away!

    1. I used to spend a lot more time in front of the TV than I do now. Cutting the cord on cable helped, but so did really thinking about what I was doing, what I wanted to be doing, was a big part of that, too.

  5. Love that quote! I need to get off my ass both literally and figuratively as well. I can't believe summer is almost over already!

  6. The next project on my list is painting a couple of rooms, but first a lot of prep work since one of them has a mural I don't like and there are lots of cornices and alcoves to mask before the actual painting begins. Fortunately, I like painting. That's the easy part.

    1. Good luck with your painting! We hemmed and hawed about painting our new place then ultimately decided to leave it the neutral tan/beige/sandy color.

  7. So how is your concentration? I hear people switching to standing and they seem to like it but I just feel like I'd get distracted... My August has been a mixed bag. High needs on the family front so only a little editing.

    1. What I've been doing is standing for a chunk of time - like for the duration of a project, say, like social networking/blogging - then sitting for a chunk of time. At this point, for me, I'm finding that standing works better for some projects than others.

  10. August not so much for me - but September and October will be solid writing. Really looking forward to it...

  11. Yeah, I've been busy revising. So excited my book got contracted, but so much to do. :-)

  13. I am, after much waffling, making the rest of August (and all of September, I hope) count. I have a novel to finish!

    1. I hear you! My goal is to have a solid draft - one with a beginning, middle, end - of my WiP done by the end of September. Good luck to us!
