The Push Broom in my Mind

So far, my KISS – Keep It Super Simple - word/strategy for 2023 is working pretty well. When I catch clutter creeping in, especially mental clutter, I imagine my focus as a big push broom, shoving stuff out of the way. (My husband always laughs when I use housecleaning examples because we both know the only time I might ever actually use a broom would be for Quidditch.

WRITING –

I'm pretty sure I've done more work on my novel/novella last month than I did last year.

WATCHING –

Movie – Summer of 84 (2018) is nostalgic AND creepy. The monologue delivered by one of the characters toward the end is utterly chilling. I'm still thinking about it.

TV – Don't ask me how we missed Friday Night Lights the first time it was on because I don't know. I do know, though, that we're enjoying it now! We're in the second season so no spoilers, please!

PHYSICAL HEALTH –

Well, we signed up for another miles challenge. And we're carrying over one from last year so here's where we are as of 1/29/2023:

19/300 miles

0/100 miles.

I usually focus more on overall health, but this year, losing pounds - in a healthy way! – is my goal and will hopefully give me the most benefit all around. So far, I haven't lost any weight, but I also haven't gained any either, so I'll take it.

How's your year going so far? Any movies or TV shows – old, new or new-to-you – that you're enjoying? How do you lose pounds or handle weight loss in general? Any suggestions?

  1. Hooray for making progress on your novel/novella!

We started watching that show Shrinking on AppleTV. The first two episodes have dropped and I am eager for more.

I didn't set any mileage/fitness/health goals this year, but I really, really do need to be more active and eat so much better than I do now.

    1. Thanks, MJ!

Maybe work on small changes? I'm trying to be more active now, while the weather is cooler, so I have more oomph for when it gets hot. In terms of eating, I changed up what I have for breakfast - a small thing but I'm being consistent. So far. :)

  5. My year has been off to a good start as well, despite it beginning with a funeral.

    1. I'm sorry to hear you started the year with a funeral. I hope the rest of the year is kinder.

  6. I'm most definitely not a weight loss expert, but more protein seems to be helping me as a general sort of "add" instead of "take away" kind of food group. I am having a good year so far.

  7. Congrats on the success(es). You rock.

I've started to revise a work that is--ooohhh--four years old and unfinished. My thinking is, if I start it, words will come. I watched Field of Dreams yesterday.

    Does it show? hehehe

  8. Woot! Sounds like you're doing pretty well this year. I'm doing a Couch to 5K program and I've forgotten how good it feels to move.

  9. That's awesome that you've gotten a lot of writing done! I recently got rid of cable so I've been watching a lot of different shows on my streaming platforms.

    1. Thanks, Sarah!

We got rid of cable ages ago and just have a few streaming platforms now. We try not to have too many because it starts to feel like clutter.

  10. I need to watch that movie. I've never heard of it.

I always make losing weight my goal. This year, I have several mini-health goals, like drinking water, taking vitamins, limiting eating out, and more fruits and veggies. It hasn't helped me lose much weight, but like you, I haven't gained any.

    1. It's creepy, though, so be warned!

I'm doing some of those same mini-goals, too. I figure that by the end of the year, even if I haven't lost the pounds, I will have gained a healthier body overall. :)
