My One Word for 2023 is actually an acronym:
KISS – Keep It Super Simple
I recently mentioned to a friend that my brain feels too full and too empty at the same time. (Not sure if that makes sense to anyone else but it did to us!) There's too much "clutter" around me and inside of me. It's time to purge and streamline. So, in keeping with that theme, even my goals for 2023 are pretty straightforward:
WRITING – focus on the novella/novel
PHYSICAL HEALTH – focus on losing pounds
MENTAL HEALTH – focus on managing anxiety
A lot of things will have to go by the wayside in order for me to put my energy, my focus where it absolutely, positively needs to go. I have no idea if this will work, but I'm going with it.
(On a side note, you may recall, my husband and I had signed up for three different miles challenges last year. The results? 0/100 miles on one challenge, 30/100 miles on the other and . . . drum roll, please! . . . 202.2/202.2 miles! Not great, but not too shabby either.)
Wishing you all a creative, healthy, joyful 2023!

Do you have any goals/plans for 2023? Any advice/suggestions for me?
Happy New Year! I love what you chose for your word of the year. I'll add it as a second word for my year too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Natalie!
DeleteI hope it helps you. Now it's early days yet, but when I find myself getting overwhelmed, I take a deep breath and remind myself to keep it super simple. :)
Good job on the last one!
ReplyDeleteIt is like a ton of noise and stuff and just clutter. I do understand.
Thanks, Alex!
DeleteAs much as I hate for other people to feel the negative stuff I feel, it is nice to know I'm not alone in my nuttiness. :)
Hooray on that last walking goal. So good for you. Happy New Year, Madeline. Wishing you success as you focus.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Liza! With every miles challenge, I learn something about what works for me and what doesn't, so hopefully I'll continue to improve and accomplish even more. :)
DeleteHi Madeline, your three goals match mine. I'm trying to manage my anxiety. I have started my second adult novel. And I have managed to (with great difficulty) lose 2 and a half kgs. Planning to lose 3 more. Good luck with all your goals. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds to me like you're off to an excellent start, Rachna. Good luck to you, too! :)
DeleteI think purging the clutter is exactly what you need. You can do it! You can do it! You can...
ReplyDeleteGet the point? hehehe
Anna from elements of emaginette
Thanks, Anna! I appreciate the enthusiasm. :)
DeleteCongrats on the challenge. I hope I do more walking this year too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan! We signed up for another challenge, plus we're carrying over some from last year. I think. We'll see. :)
DeleteYeh for more walking!
Being healthy and happy is the best goal. And congrats on the walking challenge! Good luck with the novella/novel too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Annalisa! And I will take all the good luck wishes I can get. :)
DeleteYou read my cluttered/empty mind. It's like there's too much to think about, so my brain spins. And IRL, the clutter in my house makes me stall because I don't know where to start.
ReplyDeleteHang in there, Elizabeth! I'm taking it one thing at a time, if possible. For writing, I'm really limiting the number of stories I write/submit because I need to focus on the novel.
DeleteFor house projects, we just went through all our Christmas decorations, organized them then put them away. I had to let go of my perfectionist tendencies with it, though, and say good enough. :)
I like "Keep It Super Simple" much better than "Keep It Simple, Stupid," which is what I learned KISS meant, but we definitely don't need to be called "stupid."
ReplyDeleteKeeping it simple is also something I am working on this year. Keeping things simple, slowing down, ease...those are my goals.
That's what I always thought, too, Chrys. But then my husband mentioned this version, and I saw it online, and knew it would work better for me. No one needs more negative self talk.
DeleteExcellent goals, Chrys. Good luck to you! :)
