Pasta or Progress?

I can't tell which has more holes in it – my attention span or the colander I use to drain pasta. Yum . . . pasta. Smothered in sauce, topped with cheese. Maybe some ravioli. No wait, baked ziti. And garlic bread. And . . . oh.

See what I mean?

WRITING -

I rearranged my office furniture in an effort to minimize distractions. So now a blank wall stares back at me every time I look over the top of my computer. This might actually be working because I wrote and subbed a flash fiction story for a contest, and I started making notes on a novella.

WALKING –

I mentioned back in January that my husband and I signed up for two virtual challenges, 100 miles each. Well, we also signed up for a third one – 202.2 miles. (Don't even ask me how this happened. I'm pretty sure my husband distracted me with cake.)

Stats so far =

43/202.2 miles (walking only)

0/100 miles

0/100 miles

WATCHING –

Movie – SCREAM (2022] aka SCREAM, "The Requel", was a fun romp down memory lane, and it made me want to re-watch the old SCREAM movies again, at least the first one.

READING -

I'm in the middle of Twenty Years Later by Charlie Donlea – enjoying it so far!

What creative project - writing or otherwise - are you working on? What do you do for exercise/fitness? Have you read or watched anything lately you enjoyed?

  1. Those forty-three miles for the one can't count for the others?
A blank wall is a good idea. Hope it keeps working.

    1. You can count the miles for the others - it's all pretty flexible - but it's just not preferred. There are separate ribbons and pins and medals for each of the challenges. And I'm stubborn that I want to complete each one on their own. :)

  2. I'm going to guess you already know this, but what about exercise videos, online or otherwise? I like the walking at home ones - they help me keep my miles up when it's too hot to walk here in Florida. :)

  3. Pasta strainer is definitely a good analogy. I am in your boat, and ravioli sounds amazing.

    1. I would say we could use the colander to bail out this boat we're in, but I don't think it would do too much good. :)

  4. I like to walk with friends. I got an inexpensive exercise bike in late 2020, and I've really enjoyed riding it because I can walk TV or read while I ride.

    1. I wish I could read when on a treadmill or exercise bike! Then maybe I would actually want to exercise. :)

  5. I saw Scream. I liked how they merged the old and the new.

    Now, I'm hungry. Thanks. LOL

I so easily get distracted. I went to Facebook to share a giveaway and was there 30 minutes checking friend's posts. Then I wonder why an hour of writing time only delivers a few words.

    1. I liked how they did that, too. And also how the whole franchise, while still scary, pokes fun at horror movies in general.

I'm finding if I set myself smaller chunks of time to write - or to do pretty much anything, really - I tend to get more done because I'm able to focus better. Smaller chunks of time but more of them.

  6. My desk is right next to a window, so I admit I spend a fair amount of time looking out of it when I should probably be doing other things. I wonder if I should try the blank wall thing, too?

Best of luck with the contest—and yay for making notes for a new project!

    1. My desk was near the window, too. I kept the bottom shutters closed and the top ones open so what I saw was sky and palm tree tops, pretty but not particularly distracting, not like cars or people. Right? Wrong. :)

Thanks, MJ! My story made the contest's final round so is now eligible to be voted on.

  7. My attention span has taken a nosedive as well. I'm trying to do more reading (and less time watching war news) but keep having to read paragraphs over again or refer back a few pages to figure out who the heck is Mabel. Walking the dog is the big exercise at the moment. And I'm slowly revising a mystery manuscript that's taking me forever and a day to finish.

    1. I don't know why exactly, but this totally made me laugh out loud - "Who the heck is Mabel?" :)

Good luck with your mystery manuscript! Remember what the tortoises say - slow and steady, slow and steady.... :)

  8. Good progress! I recently finished rewriting a story that has driven me BONKERS. I think it helped I set a deadline to get it done by March!

    1. Thanks!

Good for you for setting that deadline and finishing that story! I hope it does well when you send it out into the world. :)

  9. Sounds like your year's off to a good start. Good luck with your submissions and other endeavours. I also have a blank wall to look at when writing - or I would do if it didn't have a pile of clutter in front of it. Need to fix that!

    1. Thanks, Nick!

The trick is to move the clutter to the sides. :)
