The Year is Young

Even though I have managed to stall out already, I am not giving up. The year is young – even if I am not – so I am revving up and getting going!

WRITING

I'm focusing more on writing-related work lately. Yes, some of that is pure procrastination, but it's also because I have a couple of ideas simmering on my brain's back burner that are not ready to be served yet.

I'm cleaning up some around the blog. Since Blogger is less user-friendly than it used to be, I'm streamlining things a bit. I want to keep it easy for readers to navigate and for me to update.

WATCHING –

TV – Downton Abbey was a huge hit around here, and now we're watching Longmire. (Yes, I know we are waaaaay behind the times. Trendsetters we are not.)

Movie – See for Me was better than I expected. A solid thriller with a couple of nice twists.

READING –

I really enjoyed These Silent Woods by Kimi Grant Cunningham. It was a little slow going for me in the beginning, but I absolutely loved the last chunk of the story.

How's your year going so far? Have you stalled a bit or are you revving right through? Are you happy with your blog/website and/or its host? Have you read or watched anything you'd recommend?

  1. I loved Longmire! I think I'm even further behind you in that I'm just watching Call the Midwife!

    1. Have you read the Longmire books? I wasn't sure how close the show was to the story, the characters, etc. And now I have to add Call the Midwife to the To Watch list. :)

    2. My new husband (Holy moley! Not used to that just yet...) is a huge Longmire fan. He even has a sticker on the back window of his truck that says, "Longmire for President." He's also read the books. (OMG, I even got a READER!!!) He says the show does a pretty good job of depicting the general background and characters overall, except for the daughter. She's much smarter in the books.

  2. Though my year started on a slow note, I have started writing now, I spent a good chunk of January reading a lot.

    1. Reading is an awesome way to start the year, Rachna, so I hope you don't feel too badly about that. :)

  3. I just added Longmire to my list. And Call the Midwife that Liza mentioned is really good too.

    1. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would, especially the supporting cast.

  4. Fingers crossed for smooth sailing for the rest of the year! Or, at the very least, may the seas not be too rough. :)

  5. I don't think I've quite stalled out yet, but I can feel it lurking back there, ready to pounce. I'm hoping to hold it off a little longer...

I keep missing out on new shows because I watch one, fall in love with it, and then just keep watching it over and over. Currently, I'm obsessed with Ted Lasso.

My sister loves Call The Midwife. She would definitely recommend it. :)

    1. Maybe if you give yourself permission to take a break it won't be the same as stalling out? :)

I have those handful of shows, too, that I watch over and over and over.... :)

  6. I'm not stalled, but it does seem like I'm going backwards! Hopefully this month will be better than the last one!

Blog changes usually do result in a lot of work. It seems like you've done a good job for the readers. I just hope there's not too much frustration on the writer side.

    1. It's funny, because I usually think of going backwards as negative, but sometimes it can be positive, like going back to something that worked for us before.

Thanks about the blog changes. I don't have the oomph for a blog overhaul, but some clean up and a bit of decluttering I can handle. :)

  7. Cleaning up my website would be a wise move. Thanks for the idea. :-)

    1. You're welcome! I still have more to do around here, but I'm not going crazy with it.

  8. Some of Blogger's new posting features are a challenge to work around, that's for sure.

    1. Definitely. I was all frustrated about it, but then figured I'd just have to find a way to make it work for me, for now.

  9. 'The year is young, I am not' is soooo me!

I enjoyed Longmire. It's pretty true to the books and the casting is good. I'm watching The Chosen, four episodes into the first season. Very interesting.

I have Wordpress on Hostgator, which is a paid host. I love Hostgator; Wordpress, not so much. But I'm too lazy to try to change it. I was at least able to download an app to revert to the older version, as their upgrade was the opposite of user friendly.

    1. I was curious as to the casting vs the characters in the books because I really enjoy all the supporting characters.

Just the thought of trying to redo the blog, the website etc is exhausting, let alone the actual doing of it.

  10. Groan... you reminded me how long it's been since I 'cleaned' up and did something to update my blog. My exercising is pretty stalled with the terrible weather we've been having. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

    1. I think terrible weather is a good reason! Seeing as I can't really use that one myself, I'll have to go with I'm just lazy. :)

  11. Good morning, Madeline! It's cold and snow-covered here in Northern Colorado, but today the sun is out which lifts the mood a whole bunch. I just turned a 2nd draft manuscript over to my favorite beta reader while I let it rest in advance of more revisions. I'm taking this time to tackle my mom's old pictures and some of ours as well, tossing and sorting and mailing some to kids and cousins and niece/nephew. I find it's easier to send photos to others (who will probably throw them away after a glance) than it is to throw them away myself. My need to reduce clutter now rivals Marie Kondo's.

    1. Seeing the sun really does help, doesn't it?

Going through the photos is a great idea, but not one I'm up for tackling any time soon. Good for you! :)

  12. I finally (underscore finally) finished the book that was brewing on my back burner forever, so fingers crossed, the trend continues and I can keep up the writing/blogging pace.

I'm finishing Supernatural, so I'm about as trendy as you are.

    1. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I started Supernatural not too long ago. I'm still on the first season, but I kind of dive in and out of it. I'm enjoying it, though.

  14. As you know, there've been a lot of amazing changes in my life over these past months, so if I were to stall for a bit, that would probably be a good thing. Maybe it's time for a breather so I can just enjoy... being. :)

    1. Maybe not stall but pause, just so you can take it all in. Then get back to enjoying it all! :)
