May We Motivate You?

As the month of May draws to a close, we here at TSR would like to offer up some motivation - and a little humor! Let's start the second half of 2018 with a kick in the creative "oomph" and a chuckle or two . . . .

"YOUR INTUITION ALREADY KNOWS
WHAT IT WANTS TO WRITE,
SO GET OUT OF THE WAY."
(Ray Bradbury)

"There are a million talented writers out there
who are unpublished only because
they stop writing when it gets hard.
Don't do that."
(Gillian Flynn)

"UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
HEALTHY STRIVING AND PERFECTIONISM
IS CRITICAL
TO LAYING DOWN THE SHIELD
AND PICKING UP YOUR LIFE."
(Dr. Brene Brown)

"My theory on housework is,
if the item doesn't multiply, smell,
catch fire, or block the refrigerator door,
let it be. No one else cares.
Why should you?
(Erma Bombeck)

"IF I WROTE A DR. SEUSS-ESQUE BOOK
ABOUT THE RESEARCH I DO FOR MY NOVELS
IT WOULD BE TITLED
'OH, THE THINGS YOU NOW KNOW.'
IT WOULD BE TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE
FOR CHILDREN."
(Mindy McGinnis)

"MY WISH FOR YOU IS THAT
YOU FEEL NO NEED
TO CONSTRICT YOURSELF
TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLE
COMFORTABLE."
(Ta-Nehisi Coates)

  1. Too much of my May has been spent helping clean out the garage. We're not done yet...

However, I hope June is almost all writing month. I have a book to finish.

    1. We've been working on our garage, too. We're finally at the stage where we're looking for organizational systems, like shelves, etc.

      Good luck in June!

  2. Great quotes. I recently read a book by Ta-Nehisi Coates which was very thought provoking.

    1. I don't believe I've read anything by Coates yet. I did like the quote though. :)

  3. The first half of 2018 has been eventful to say the least. I'm really hoping for a calmer rest of the year.

  4. My May was better than my April so I say things are good! Let's hope the rest of the year continues to improve. :)

  5. My first three months were good.
I'm hoping to start a new #100words100days challenge... maybe after September.
I just need to do it, without thinking too hard about it.

The Gillian Flynn quote is a good reminder to keep on moving...

  7. Loved the quotes by Brown, Bombeck, and McGinnis! My housework sometimes looks like that, and yes, sometimes we have to have a healthy perspective on perfectionism.
May had some not so fun moments, but I just went to a memorial service for a lovely lady who always said, "Every day is a good day and every night is a good night," so I'm trying to look back and see the positives . . . like I got caught up on some netflix binging while sick. :)

    1. I'm sorry to hear your May wasn't so great, Tyrean. Good for you, though, on looking for those positives. And I hope you watched some good stuff on Netflix. :)

  8. Those are some great quotes. I'm a huge fan of Gillian Flynn.

May was a great month. It was my birthday, and both my best friend and boyfriend made sure it was awesome. Definitely can't complain.

As for creative projects, I've got two novels and two pieces of short fiction due, so life will be busy. (Big surprise.)

Hope you have a great summer!

    1. Me, too. I read and enjoyed Flynn's early works way before Gone Girl came out.

Glad you had such a great birthday! :)
