Motivational Monday

THE WORLD EATS WRITERS
FOR BREAKFAST,  LUNCH AND DINNER.
IT'S AN INCREDIBLY HARD TASK TO GET YOUR WORK
SEEN, PUBLISHED WELL, REVIEWED AND READ.
YOU MUST HAVE AN IRONCLAD SENSE THAT YOUR WORK
IS WORTH EVERYONE'S TIME TO HAVE A
TOUGH ENOUGH HIDE FOR THIS BUSINESS.
(Janet Reid)

I'm working on it!

How about you?

I wrote this post awhile back, having no idea I would receive a special mention in literary agent Janet Reid's flash fiction contest this past weekend. My entry was named "Not Quite A Story But Oh My Godiva, YIKES." Now that's how you start off the week!

  2. So cool to get noticed by Janet. She's an icon and knows her stuff.

  4. I'm working on it too. Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's not. But I'll keep going. :)

    1. I'm not there either, but we'll just have to keep working on it. :)

  6. I see freelancers on forums talking about how hard it is to apply for freelance writing jobs and be rejected and I just shake my head. I spent the first ten years of my writing career checking my PO box every day, only to find rejection letter after rejection letter. Some were even VERY harsh. You do doubt yourself...but if writing is in your blood, you keep going. Oddly, the rejections somehow only make you MORE certain this is what you were meant to do once you've gotten enough of them. You realize nothing they say can stop you!

    1. Excellent comment, Stephanie! I remember those days of checking the mailbox for those SASE's and finding rejection after rejection with the occasional happy acceptance thrown in there. :)

  8. Great quote. Lately my sense hasn't been so ironclad, so I have to work on that and remember all it takes is confidence in your work.
