Motivational Monday

YOU BETTER [START WRITING] NOW
BECAUSE YOU KNOW HOW TO WRITE,
AND YOU HAVE FINGERS,
AND YOU HAVE THIS ONE LIFE,
AND DURING THIS ONE LIFE YOU SHOULD PUT
YOUR WORDS DOWN,
AND MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD,
AND THEN LET OTHERS HEAR YOUR VOICE.

AND THE ONLY WAY ANY OF THAT IS GOING
TO HAPPEN IS IF YOU ACTUALLY DO IT.
PEOPLE CAN'T READ THE THOUGHTS IN YOUR HEAD.
THEY CAN ONLY READ THE THOUGHTS YOU PUT DOWN,
CAREFULLY AND WITH GREAT LOVE, ON THE PAGE.

SO YOU HAVE TO DO IT, GODDAMNIT.
(Dave Eggers)

So . . . what are we waiting for?

Let's do this!

  1. Wait...I actually have to do it? Can't I just...No? Well, then. Better have at it. :)

I like this quote, like the author. And now I'm feeling as though we should all put our hands in, and on three shout, "Write!'

    1. Ha! Love the idea of all of us putting our hands in and shouting "write!" That would be an awfully big huddle. :)

  2. Writing would be a whole lot easier if we could just project our thoughts onto the world. But since it doesn't work that way, we have to put the work in and write!

  3. Don't want people reading my mind although telepathy would be cool.

    1. I tend to think most people would run away screaming if they could see the stuff that floats through my mind. :)

  4. Yes... put down the words. That's easy. But WHICH words? There are so many words that need putting down than I have time to write!!!

  5. Great pep talk for Monday morning. As soon as I visit a few more blogs, I'll be back to writing.

  6. Great stuff. I saw someone else post that talking about writing wasn't writing. Neither was being on Facebook, researching, outlining, etc. Writing is writing.

    1. There's definitely other aspects to the craft but you're right - writing is writing.

  7. I love this! We only have one life, but if you live it right, that should be enough. Now I just have to get writing. :)

  11. I know! I'm doing a victory dance because my creative brain finally turned back on and allowed me to write. (TOOK LONG ENOUGH.) It's been amazing, being able to get into a story and again and have the words dance from the fingers with hardly any effort... Is there anything better?
