Also, check out this post - Blogging for Writers - where she talks about why she blogs and how she uses social media.

This post - What Age Did the Greatest Authors Publish Their Most Famous Works - will probably make you either laugh or cry, depending on how old you are when you read it. I focused on all the authors who were in the 40s or older when their "breakthrough book" hit the stands. Made me feel better. A little.

Do you snack while you write? I'll occasionally munch on dark chocolate covered powerberries or espresso beans (both from Trader Joe's.) Check out what some famous authors enjoy eating while working - 9 Famous Authors' Favorite Workday Snacks. I'm all for cheesecake but raw eggs in coffee? Not so much.
I can't eat while I write. I'm way too easily distracted so I really can't do anything else when I'm writing.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could eat a meal or anything like that while writing but those two snacks I mentioned (not the eggs!) are easy...maybe too easy!
DeleteI haven't read anything by Mindy McGinnis, so thanks for mentioning her!
ReplyDeleteWhen I write I may get my 2:00-3:00 munches and have a quick snack. Usually something with coffee or tea like chocolate or a small muffin. :)
Definitely check out her books, Chrys. :)
DeleteI tend to drink my coffee more in the morning although I'll occasionally have some decaf green tea in the afternoon.
I love chips, but unfortunately, I have to stick with potato chips (though corn chips and salsa is my favorite). The salsa just doesn't work with typing.
ReplyDeleteI'd have salsa all over my computer and my desk if I tried that. :)
DeleteIn their forties? My first book, yes. But a breakout book? Crap, I'm too late...
ReplyDeleteCheck out the link, Alex - some authors didn't have their breakout book until way past their forties. It's not too late!
DeleteOhh yeah. I eat while writing all the time. And drink tea. Chai, preferably.
ReplyDeleteGotta finish a couple more books before I can have a breakthrough, I think. Better get working on that :)

Now, if we can eat while working at a stand up desk or a treadmill desk it would all even out calorie-wise. :)
DeleteI try not to snack but I always have a drink, tea, coffee or a protein shake.
ReplyDeleteI always have something to drink, too - coffee, iced coffee, water, hot green tea or iced green tea.
DeleteI usually don't eat while I write. Mostly because I don't think about it if I'm caught up in the story. I kind of forget food and the world exists.
ReplyDeleteMy coffee gets cold a lot when I write. :)
DeleteI don't eat while writing, I look forward to lunch which I can have when I'm finished! Can't do without tea beside me, though.
ReplyDeleteI know it's getting close to lunchtime when my growling stomach becomes louder than my characters' voices!
DeleteI eat all the time. Raw almonds and hot tea are my favorite desk snacks.
ReplyDeleteWow. Norah Roberts has written a ton of books!
Mindy is awesome. So glad she shuns the ivory tower.
Oh, you're so much healthier than me! :)
DeleteAnd I really can't wait for Mindy's new book!
I just saw that breakthrough novels thing, and it made me feel like there's more time. Although I don't want to wait till I'm 50. :)
ReplyDeleteI hear you! :)
DeleteI'm 44...almost 45. My first book hit the shelves when I was 44...if that helps. And I wouldn't say it was a "breakthrough!"
ReplyDeleteThat does help, Stephanie. :) And I know your "breakthrough book" is not far off!
ReplyDeleteMmm. chocolate covered espresso beans. Puts the chocolate covered pretzels I snack on to shame. I may need to make the switch to them. :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE chocolate covered pretzels, too. The espresso beans are easier to eat, though, not as crumbly. :)
DeleteAbout the only thing I have in common with these ever so great authors is coffee. I also have a handful of nuts. And the coffee is frequently cold! Thanks for this really interesting post!
ReplyDeleteI like both hot coffee and iced coffee - the iced coffee is easier because I don't have to keep getting up to heat it in the microwave. Although, the getting up and down is good for me.... :)
