E is for . . . THE END OF TIMES

Welcome to The Blogging from A-Z Challenge April 2014! This year, I’m offering up a story – each one 100 words or fewer - for each letter of the alphabet.

Some are heartfelt, poignant, sweet. Others are…not.

I hope you enjoy them.

THE END OF TIMES

The boy on the bicycle tears down the old road toward my house. He slams to a stop, face sheened with sweat, panic. He heaves out his words. “Please. Help.”

I’m old, not stupid. People call me loner, paranoid, hermit. This could be a trick.

He waves a wad of bills. “Dad said you have supplies, guns. He made me climb out the window….”

Screams scratch the sky, rake down our spines.

The boy weeps, drops the money. The bills flutter away in the wind.

Guttural moans bleed into the air, staining the world that is now behind us.

  19. My absolute favorite line: "Screams scratch the sky, rake down our spines."

Of course my mind immediately goes to one place: Zombie apocalypse.
