A Reading and Writing Roundup...with Walkers

Here's another eclectic post for you all....

*****

Is anyone planning on doing NaNo this November? I still haven't decided yet myself. But I am enjoying all the NaNo Prep Posts over at The Office of Letters and Light blog. I particularly liked No Plot? No Problem!: 3 Things to Keep in Mind While Brainstorming and No Plot? No Problem!: In Which a Planning Limit is Proposed (Gasp!)

I am already a huge Joshilyn Jackson fan so the chance to get an autographed copy of her new novel, Someone Else's Love Story, would be great...and entirely possible! She's doing a Virtual Book Tour for all her fans who can't make it to her actual book tour. She'll sign and/or personalize copies of SELS through the local indie bookstore where she got her start. Oh, and did I mention there will be prizes? The more orders the store gets, the more prizes Ms. Jackson will add!

This podcast on Author Entrepreneurs - Hugh Howey is one of the panelists - was very interesting and gave me some new things to think about regarding self-publishing.

Since I am both a writer and a huge fan of beachcombing, I loved this post - Writing and "Found Objects" and Beachcombing - by author Laini Taylor. Oh, and check out the amazing elephant at the end.

Is it October yet? More specifically, is it Sunday, October 13th yet? Hey, give me a break - I haven't mentioned The Walking Dead for awhile now! I can't wait! I feel like a kid at Christmas - okay, a weird, Walker-filled Christmas but you know what I mean.

Planning on doing NaNo this year? Thinking about self-publishing, if you haven't already? Excited about the return of The Walking Dead or any other favorite TV shows? What are you looking forward to over the next few months?

  1. hadn't planned on NaNo although I've done it in the past.
I'm just happy football is back, because it's been a real sports wasteland...

    1. See, now football just messes up the airing of one of my favorite TV shows, "The Amazing Race." And I'm still holding on to baseball season for as long as possible.... :)

  3. I've been thinking about doing NaNo since it was such a big motivator for me last year but I just don't think I am going to be able to commit to it this year. Still might jump in at the last minute though.
The way you feel about The Walking Dead reminds me of how I am about Game of Thrones. I'm already thinking, is it April yet??? :D

    1. We still have time to decide about NaNo.... :)

April?! That might as well be next year...oh, wait. It is. Oh, poor you!

  4. I'm planning to do NaNoWriMo this year. I lost for the first time last year, so I want to redeem myself.

I'm really looking forward to The Walking Dead's return next month. Unfortunately, I'll be stuck on a train when it airs, so I'll have to wait until the next day to watch it.

And, like Julie, I'm also looking forward to Game of Thrones coming back.

    1. You'll do it this time!

I'm always torn about watching TWD or recording it then forwarding through all the commercials. My husband and I usually end up watching it, but then I'm too hyped up afterwards to go to sleep! :)

  5. I'm excited for Once Upon a Time to come back this weekend. Thanks for all the links. I've never done NaNo. I always have other projects going.

    1. That show always looked interesting but I never got a chance to watch it. I think there's a spin-off of it this season, too - Neverland?

Maybe you could fit one of your projects into NaNo this year? :)

  6. I'm not planning on doing NaNo, but I suppose that could change. I have so many projects to work on, and I also have ideas in my head, but I'm trying to get other stuff done. So we'll see.

Plus I did it last year and finished. So I know I can do it and don't need to prove to myself I can.

    1. It's great you did NaNo last year - and won! I find it helps me give deadlines for ideas and projects that might not ever get down on paper otherwise. :)

  7. I'm seriously thinking about NaNo this year. The show I'm looking forward to is The Blacklist, although I'm most excited about the baseball playoffs and World Series. Go Cards!

    1. Go for it, Donna! :)

And we're hanging on to the hope that the Rays get one of those Wild Card spots, then get into the playoffs, then.... :o

  8. Agents of SHEILD turned out to be pretty good, so I'm looking forward to the second episode Madeline!

    1. Yeah, I liked it and would definitely give it another episode or two. I think Alex posted about it today.

  9. I planned on doing NaNo this year, but I'm still revising my novel, Champion in Flight so . . .I don't think it's possible this year, which feels . . . well just odd. It seems like there's lots of excitement about Hugh Howey today. I'll check out that podcast in a bit.
    Happy weekend!

    1. I know it felt weird for me last year when I skipped NaNo, even though I did Camp NaNo instead.

The podcast is a little long, but it's a good discussion among the panelists.

  10. I can't wait for Walking Dead either! The last Breaking Bad is this Sunday (SOB!) so my only consolation is WD. Such a great show...

Yeah, I'm thinking of doing Nano this year. I have no excuse and I have an idea so I'd best get on with it...

    1. That one NaNo post talks about limiting the amount of time we plan the novel before November. Still not sure if I'm going to do NaNo, but I think I might have to keep that post in mind.

Well, TWD is pretty good consolation.... :)

  11. Hi Madeline! Nice to "meet" you! Thanks for coming to comment on my post about Hugh Howey's writing tips... so funny that you posted a link to that podcast on the same day! I'm going to do NaNoWriMo for the first time since 2009. Hopefully I'll get a good chunk of my new novel done! If you decide to do it, I am "juliecdao" on the site so feel free to add me as a buddy!

  12. I'd love to do NaNo this year, but I'm still recovering from last year's NaNo! For the next few months, I'd actually like to revise my NaNo novel from last year. Has it already been a year?!

  13. Thanks for visiting my site for the Blog Blitz! Lily

  14. Like Cynthia, I'm still revising my NaNo from last year! I feel like I want to spend more time editing something to the point of being finished, rather than add another rough draft to my pile. Then again, it's only a month out, and I still need to win as I did not accomplish this last year... so my options are open at this point!
