I HAVE A LOT OF GROWING UP TO DO.
I REALIZED THAT THE OTHER DAY
INSIDE MY FORT.
(Zach Galifianakis)
One of my all time favorite meals is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with chocolate milk. I ate that almost every day for lunch when I was a kid.
Okay, I actually had it the other day.
But I'd like to think I've matured since the days when I used to eat my sandwich and drink my milk during the Sunday afternoon Abbott and Costello movie on TV.
I now use a different brand of peanut butter. I now prefer the chunky kind. I use low fat milk. I use whole wheat or whole grain bread. I watch old episodes of Law and Order: SVU.
See? All grown up! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a fort to build.
Let's have some fun this week! What's something you do now that you did when you were a kid? Is there something you miss doing? What about giving it a try today?
After eating popcorn, I always crave a peanut butter sandwich. Not sure why, but I've always had one afterwards.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should try putting popcorn ON the peanut butter sandwich? :)
DeletePeanut butter has always been one of my favorite foods and I have never grown out of it. Jif Creamy for me! :D
ReplyDeleteJif is my brand, too, but the crunchy kind. :)
DeleteI've always been a crunchy girl. With fresh Wonderbread that you squish down with the palm of your hand and eat like a peanut butter sammich pancake.
ReplyDeleteForts are the best. I have so many wonderful memories because of forts and there's still nothing better than finding a quiet, small space you can curl up in and make it your own wee fort.
I haven't eaten Wonder Bread since I was a kid but there's really nothing like it. :)
DeleteAnd I create mental forts all the time. :)
LOL! Yeah, go build your fort. =) I used to sneak into the closet at night and turn on a light after my sisters were asleep to read choose your own adventure books until the wee hours. Now I have a kindle. =)
ReplyDeleteAnd I would hope you no longer have to hide in the closet to read after hours. :)
DeleteI used to play video games as a kid. I'm talking ATARI. Miss that. The video games kids play these days is just to real looking. Give me Pac-Man or Space Invaders any day.
ReplyDeleteI miss Atari, too! Loved Pac Man and Circus Atari and Super Breakout and Missile Command and Pitfall and.... :)
DeleteI miss playing in the woods for hours and watching the animals. I used to do that all the time as a kid :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't have woods to play in but I liked playing outside in the driveway and in the schoolyard. :)
DeleteI lived on fluffernutter sandwiches as a kid.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with you and Jay on the Atari. All the games you listed I loved. I could play those. My Wii is too complicated for me.
I'm able to work the Wii okay but the XBox gives me a headache.
DeleteOh my gosh - peanut butter with honey and you let the honey soak into the bread. Nom, nom. I used to love those.
ReplyDeleteAll this food talk...sigh. I think I'm going to have to have pbj and chocolate milk for lunch tomorrow.... Yum! :)
DeleteThe forts. Who doesn't miss forts. I even miss my kids being grown up and not building them.
ReplyDeleteI always took a peanut butter sandwich to school through elementary school. During one of my pregnancies I craved them. I now get my PB fix by using a tablespoon full to dip my apple slices in.
The only thing I like with peanut butter besides jelly is chocolate. :)
Deletei still love cartoons, but not some of the newer disturbing ones...
ReplyDeletegreat post! & happy bday zackie!
I think the last cartoon I watched was The Simpsons, and that was forever ago!
DeleteLike Tara, I still love cartoons as well. I'll sit and watch the old one with my kids on DVD. Thundercats, Scooby, JL.... the list is long. (:
ReplyDeleteI used to like Scooby Doo, too! And the Superfriends. :)
DeleteFor me it's peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I still love em and still make em for lunch sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I never really liked pb and banana sandwiches. I don't know why because I like both of those things...just not together, I guess. :)
DeleteJelly good. PB good. Together...yuck. Haha. That might be my most hated food ever. :) I used to stay up late and read under my blankets as a kid. That sounds really nice right now.
ReplyDeleteMy husband doesn't care for pb and jelly together either!
DeleteI miss stretching out in the sun like a cat to read or doze. Definitely something I need to pick up again! I'm okay with not eating mini marshmallows while watching Elvis Presley movies, lol. That's something else I did as a kid. I relived some kid-ness a year ago when I hiked with friends to a swing rope that's been in the big park behind us since we were in middle school. Man, that was fun! I've been trying to find it on solo hikes, and simply can't locate it. Grrr.
ReplyDeleteShannon at The Warrior Muse
Finding that swing sounds like it has some childhood magic behind it. Hmm, sounds like an idea for a short story.... :)
DeleteTo be honest, I don't think I've stopped doing any childhood things... Or maybe, I never did them when I was a child...? I spent a lot of time hiding in my bedroom writing stories, and now I do it in the living room - all grown up!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how our writing used to be done in hiding or in secret or at least in quiet corners, and now we're so much more open about it?
DeletePB&J is definitely comfort food. Sometimes I do the J, sometimes not.
ReplyDeleteI use different brand of peanut butter: The real stuff with nothing added. No extra sugar or salt, which means you have to stir that first time. It sucks, but I like it.
I switched too. Used to eat chunky growing up, now I just buy creamy.
I use skim milk--but don't drink it. I've never drank milk-yuck. Use it in cereal though.
I use whole grain instead of white too, now.
I also watch reruns of L&O: SVU. It's my go to show when I want the TV on but not totally paying attention. I actually saw an episode the other day that I don't think I've ever seen. That rarely happens.
Guess I'm an adult too, even though I love the PB&J. :)
I think I've seen all the old SVU episodes, but every once in awhile I come across one that I don't remember at all even though I'd swear I'd seen it. :)
