Motivational Monday

A GOOD BOOK HAS NO ENDING.
(R. D. Cumming)

Isn't that the truth? Think about all the books you love. Do you ever play out the rest of the story as you go about your day? Do you ever wonder what happened to all the characters, wonder what they're doing right that minute as you're washing dishes or folding laundry?

Hmm, or maybe that's just me...

Let's keep this in mind not only as we write but also as we buy books to give as gifts. Who couldn't use a little magic in their lives...and that to me is what a truly good book/story is - a little bit of magic we can hold in our hands, in our hearts, and then take with us as we go about our lives.

  1. Books are my favorite Christmas present! I give them to my kids every year :)

  2. Angela, it's funny because I used to think I was weird, wanting books for my birthday and Christmas. Most kids I knew wanted toys and dolls - I wanted those, too! - but I loved books. Still do, obviously. :)

  3. My uncle went to schools and sold books for his company to the librarians. Naturally, we got books every year for Christmas. I have to believe it was part of the foundation of my love of reading.

  4. I like to think of books as living things -- maybe that's why they're to be critiqued in the present tense...

  5. Milo, I wonder if that's why I can't throw out a book? :)

  6. I love this post. For as long as I can remember, I've loved imagining what else my favorite characters may be up to once I finish a book. And, I also love getting books as gifts, you can never go wrong with a book. :)
