It's Not Over Till It's Over

I used to be guilty of saying, oh well, the year’s almost over, why bother trying this or that or the other thing. But a couple of months ago, I heard about the 100 days countdown to the end of the year, and seeing that number made me realize, hey, there’s still a big chunk of time left! It’s not only 100 days, it’s still 100 days.

As of the writing of this post, there are over 55 days left in the year. So, instead of giving up, let’s get going!

WRITING

I’m working on the story collection, a drabble and a flash fiction/short story. This story is a little different for me in that it’s heavy on dialogue, but since that’s how it came to me, I’m going with it.

READING

I’ve been on a reading roll lately!

The Private Jet by Sarah Goodwin - an adventure/survival thriller that will have you turning pages so fast you’ll get paper cuts but that's nothing compared to what happens in the book!

Runner 13 by Amy McCulloch - another survival/adventure thriller that will make you feel like a slacker unless you, too, are an ultramarathon runner racing through the Sahara Desert.

The Hitchhikers by Chevy Stevens – will leave you second guessing that road trip you’re considering…

59 Minutes by Holly Seddon – left me emotionally wrung out in the way only a really good read can. (I received an ARC in a giveaway. Expected publication date 11/18/2025.)

TORTOISES

The tortoises never fail to amuse me. At the vet for their check-up, their very different personalities were on display. They needed to have their beaks and nails trimmed, and while Larry wanted no part of it, Mrs. Larry acted like she was getting a facial and a manicure/pedicure.

WATCHING

We’ve had some good luck lately with Netflix. Two movies – The Thursday Murder Club was enjoyable and The Woman in Cabin 10 was very suspenseful. A limited series – Hostage – was utterly gripping.

How are you approaching the end of 2025? Have you read or watched anything good lately? Do your pets amuse you?

    1. I couldn't get into the books, but the movie was better than I'd thought it would be.

    2. I enjoyed The Thursday Murder Club too. Sorry to say I've just realized the holidays are upcoming, and I'm not all that enthusiastic this year. I need to find a way to improve my outlook! Wishing you happy writing, Madeline!

    3. Some years I'm more excited about the holidays than others, and I think that's okay. Improving your outlook is a good plan but maybe don't push it? Be kind to yourself! :)

  2. 2025 was over as soon as September hit! LOL! But truthfully. Yay for the reading roll! I need to slow mine down -- that's why I'm late getting about today. Too good a book keeping its grips on me. *sigh* But hey, can I really complain?

    1. I've been in a number of reading slumps this year for various reasons so it's been nice to have some momentum again. And a gripping book? That's my kind of complaint, Crystal! :)

    1. Celebrations going right up until the end of the year? Not bad at all. :)

  5. You gave me something to think about. Turtles have personalities. I've been reading a ton. I'm hoping to get through the second draft in my currentWIP before the end of the year.

    1. Not many people think reptiles have personalities but they really do!

Yeh for reading a ton! Maybe some of the books I mentioned might interest you.

Good luck on that second draft!

  6. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how fast this year blew by, let alone is going to end soon.

  7. That is a great way to look at it!

Yes, my animals are my daily source of entertainment.

    1. I'm finding it really helpful. :)

And, by the look in the tortoises' eyes, I'm guessing my husband and I amuse them as well. :)

  8. I want to watch Thursday Murder Club. I started it, but my husband started making faces and said it was boring, so I haven't finished it because his curled lip ruins my enjoyment of things. But I will get back to it sometime. That and K-Pop Demon Hunters... (which is completely different).

I hope you're enjoying the rest of your year!

    1. I hope you do get back to it!

It's been busy - not as busy as your household, I'm sure! :) - but pretty good. :)
