This guy was crossing the road in our development. Usually, my husband dons work gloves and picks up the turtle but this one was big and the kind that can reach back and bite. Instead, we kept an eye on the traffic until this big guy made it safely across.

Our neighborhood Sandhill Cranes had their babies! The "colts" are still small and fuzzy, but they'll grow into their long legs soon enough.

This beauty was hanging out in the garden section of Lowe's.

Early in the day, at the beach....

The sunset, through the palms....
Beautiful shots. Yeah, I wouldn't pick up that turtle either. Good way to lose a finger.
ReplyDeleteIt's tricky because you totally want to help the animal, but you also have to be careful yourself, like is it safe to pull the car over, etc.
DeleteSome great shots! And what a big turtle!
ReplyDeleteI especially like the picture of the baby sandhill cranes. I've never seen chicks before.
I couldn't get over the size of that turtle!
DeleteThe colts are now all gangly, growing into their legs. Sigh. They grow up so fast. :)
Beautiful, I can't wait to get back to such views, maybe this week! You've really made me homesick!
ReplyDeleteLove the turtle!
So sorry to have made you homesick! :( Maybe enjoy these pics until you can see the views for yourself?
DeleteWow! Gorgeous place and pictures! I have never seen a baby crane so it was cool to see those pictures.
ReplyDeleteThey really do look like ducklings, at least for a little while.
DeleteTotally envious of the morning walk and sunset. I'll have to run to our Lowe's and see if there is any magic there to make up for my envy.
ReplyDeleteEvery plant in the gardening section of Lowe's trembled in fear when I walked in - I could practically hear them praying that I wouldn't take them home to certain death. :o
DeleteWe have a trio of Sand Hill cranes in our neighborhood. Never seen any of the babies, though. They're cute.
ReplyDeleteAnd we have a plethora of gopher tortoises that I'm forever pulling over to carry to the other side of the road. One day, there was this tortoise so big I didn't think I'd be able to move him, so I just sat in my car in the road, blocking traffic, until he got to the other side. Made me super popular with the drivers behind me. :)
You are definitely a hero, MJ! Larry and Mrs. L totally approve, but they still want you to be careful. :)
DeleteOh my gosh, I love your photos. Great shots. Love the turtle and the butterfly the most.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to comment about decluttering on Alex's blog. Being ready was my biggest super power.
Cheers and boogie boogie.
It took forever to get the pic of the butterfly - it just would not stay still and pose for me. :)
DeleteHa! That makes sense. You got a great one though.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures! I love the baby cranes - we have a lot of ducklings and goslings in the area right now. That turtle - he totally looks like he owns his pathway. I think you exercised excellent judgment in letting him make his own way!
ReplyDeleteYou know, that turtle really did look like he was just moseying across the street as if he lived in the development...which I guess he kind of does. :)
DeleteLooks like paradise. So much to see.
ReplyDeleteI'm making more of a point to pay attention to the world around me, to see all the beauty and funkiness and creativity out there. :)
DeleteLooks like you're living in paradise
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I would say that in the summer months, in the melt-your-face heat, but overall, yeah, I think so. :)
DeleteWow, what beautiful photos! I'd love to have turtles strolling thru my yard! And that sunset...sigh.
ReplyDeleteWhere are you located? And do you have a guest room? :)
Ha! Forget strolling through the yard - we have tortoises strolling through our living room. :)
DeleteThose are beautiful photos! I've always wanted to go to that part of Nebraska where the sandhill cranes gather in the spring on their migration. It must be a spectacular sight.
ReplyDeleteMy husband just read something about that! We only have a few families of cranes in our area, and I really hope they stick around. I worry with all of the construction and the busier roads.
DeleteI saw some sandhill crane babies the other day when we were back in Florida. So adorably cute!
ReplyDeleteThey really are!
DeleteI'm glad you helped him to cross! I have to specifically go to a pond or lake to see turtles around here, so it doesn't happen often.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I like seeing them around here, I'd rather they stay away from the roads and the traffic. I like it better when I see them on the other banks. :)
