I don't think I can do this . . . .
I'm not sure I'm creative/smart/strong enough . . . .
Maybe everyone is right and I should just give up my dream/idea/plans . . . .
Yeah, me too.
But here's a reminder, something I'm going to say to myself over and over until it's tattooed on my heart -
DOUBT KILLS MORE DREAMS
THAN FAILURE EVER WILL.
(Suzy Kassem)
Believe, people.
Believe.
Doubt kills them before they even have a chance.
ReplyDeleteLike the new pictures of the Larrys.
That's the thing - we have to at least give our dreams a chance.
DeleteThe tortoises are getting big! :)
I felt to tired to go on last week, but I kept going and now I'm back on the positive side.
ReplyDeleteThat's because you are awesome, Susan. :)
DeleteThe best way to fight doubt is to surround yourself with positive people. Everyone has doubt at some point, but if you keep the right company, you don't hang on to doubt as long.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! I was starting to doubt myself going into this second week of Story a Day when my husband reminded me that yes, I can totally do this. :)
DeleteDoubt has held me back for quite some time. I'm trying to learn to ignore it.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could remember a time when I didn't doubt myself, my dreams, etc. I'd like to think it happened. Sigh.
DeleteYep. Doubt hits me a few times a day. Fortunately, I am obsessed and keep on going.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Being obsessed is one way to deal with doubt. :)
DeleteSo true! This reminds me of the quote (forget by whom) about persistence and how it's more important than talent. Thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteI think I know the quote you mean, and you're right - it is a good one.
DeleteThat's so true! Squashing doubt is not easy, but we can do it!
ReplyDeleteYes, we can!
DeleteI do my best to ignore doubt and I think I'm succeeding since I'm still here.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you still here. :)
DeleteYes, Believe!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Madeline. I needed this today. I may have to print it out and stick it on the wall.
Sticking it on the wall will be a lot less painful than a tattoo. :)
DeleteI've said those exact words just today. Bad I know. But I like your idea. I need to shed my fear of failure.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if we can ever totally shed that fear, leaving it behind like a snake's skin, but we can learn to manage it better. I hope!
DeleteThose words are so true. Doubting oneself can kill dreams. Putting doubts aside isn't always easy, but it is necessary.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you have to really give those doubts a shove to the side.
DeleteOMG, so much yes! Whenever I get down on myself or blue or think I'll never make it, 99% of the time it's because of the dark voice in my head, nothing else.
ReplyDeleteA friend likes to say, "Feel your feelings, but acknowledge that just because you're feeling/thinking something doesn't mean it's true."
That dark voice, yes.
DeleteThank you - and your friend! - for the reminder that feelings aren't necessarily facts. Just because we sometimes feel like a failure, doesn't make us one. :)
I don't know that I've ever doubted myself or my abilities to accomplish what I want. But I've doubted my ability to extricate myself from the lives of others long enough to get the job done. You and I, we will get there someday.
ReplyDeleteI love that you haven't doubted yourself or your abilities! Maybe you can teach the rest of us how to do that? Please! :)
DeleteSharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat! Hopefully it will help others. :)
DeleteVery good advice! The tricky part is to remember it when you deep in one of those doubting cycles.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Remembering that advice when we need it the most is so incredibly hard but crucial.
DeleteThat is a great quote. Doubt sure is a dream killer.
ReplyDeleteYou know it!
DeleteIt really does. I keep catching myself holding back, not because I don't think I can make it, but because I'm afraid of what happens if and when I do. Must push through!
ReplyDeleteYes, push through! Succeed! :)
