Motivational Monday

IF YOU ARE WRITING
WITHOUT ZEST,
WITHOUT GUSTO,
WITHOUT LOVE,
WITHOUT FUN,
YOU ARE ONLY HALF A WRITER.
(Ray Bradbury)

How about you?

Are you only half a writer? Are you half the writer you could be?

What would it look like, feel like to be that "whole" writer? What would it take? And are you ready, willing and able to do it?

Let's give ourselves permission to be the amazing writers and artists and creative souls we are. Let's go for it!

  1. That could be said about all aspects of life. Even unpleasant things can be finished quickly if we give it all we've got.

    1. I don't want to give unpleasant things my gusto. I'll give them speed and focus, but not joy or zest. :)

  2. I completely agree! Give yourself over to the art. :) Have a lovely week.

    1. Giving yourself over to your art feels amazing, doesn't it? I need to do it more often.

      Have a great week!

  3. Most days, but not all, I think I am only just half a writer...and probably not the half I'd like to be.

Don't know if I'm able to be that whole writer...but I don't know until I give it a shot. So, let's do this thing! :)

    1. I'm not sure we're necessarily always the best judge of the writers we are and could be. Don't be so hard on yourself. Maybe just try a little more...then a little more....

      We can definitely do it!

  4. I can only really write when I'm in the zone and feeling it. Otherwise, I get, like, one sentence written in an hour.

  5. Some days I can't find the zest and I trudge along. But other days I can't wait to get at it.

    1. I think we all have times of "trudging" with our writing and that's okay. The problem arises when it feels like that most days.

  6. Some days I feel like half a writer. Other days, when I'm in a good mood or prepared, I feel like a whole writer. :)

  7. I write with all of those things, but still only think I'm half a writer sometimes. I shall think about this for a while :-)

    1. Definitely think on it because it sounds to me like you're a "whole" writer. :)

  8. Hi Madeline,
Thanks for sharing the advice from Ray Bradbury. Most days I feel like I'm writing with those qualities, but other times it's a struggle.

  9. It would be a lot easier to be so, if life didn't get in the way. That said, I believe there are certain times when I become a whole writer...

    1. Life does get in the way sometimes. Maybe the trick is to incorporate as much of it as we can into our creativity so it becomes a part of the process and not a block to it....

  10. Those words are very true. Lately I haven't been feeling like much of a writer, but I look forward to the day when I become a full writer.

    1. I think a lot of us feel like that from time to time. Just keep the words in mind, and do what you can. :)

  11. Lately I've been 1/8 a writer. I need to get back to full speed.

  12. Madeline, I should pin this Motivational Monday post to my bulletin board and read it every day. For me to be that writer, I'd need to spend lots more time at the craft. I'm working on it, but am way too good at finding other things that must be done first.
