Motivational Monday

NEVER WRESTLE WITH PIGS.
YOU BOTH GET DIRTY
AND THE PIG LIKES IT.
(George Bernard Shaw)

Sigh. I wish I'd heard this quote when I was younger. Maybe I wouldn't have lowered myself to someone else's level as often as I did back then. Petty, petty, petty. Well, the good news is, I'm older and "wiser" now. I take deep breaths before blurting something I'll regret. I wait awhile before hitting Reply/Send on potentially scathing emails. I think about what's truly important, where I want to put my energy, what my priorities are.

Then I curse and name call behind closed doors. (Well, I did use the word wiser not perfect....)

Let's all try to stay "clean" this week!

  1. We learn how to put a lock on those stupid words that escaped us when we were younger.

  2. I've never been a fan of confrontation, so I'd run away from that pig pen :-) Being wiser certainly has advantages though!

    1. I'm definitely less confrontational now, but I'm working on learning the difference between standing up for myself, my time and energy, etc versus letting things go to avoid conflict.

  3. This is a funnier way of saying, choose your battles wisely.

I too would fight anyone who challenged me, but I could've saved myself a lot of effort if I had just ignored them.

    1. Choose your battles and watch how you conduct yourself during them. :)

  4. Nowadays, I am extra cautious if I have to say something scathing to someone.

    1. Saying something scathing is not usually a good thing to do, but nowadays it feels like you have to be extra careful.

  5. I like this saying. There's a few places online I think need to hear this quote.

  6. It's always smart to wait and think before we reply back to something that makes us angry.

  7. I admit...I could have used this quote when I was younger. I tend to be better about it now.

  8. I will definitely try my best. I think I've been too passive about certain things. I need to explode more often:)

  9. Good quote. My mom always told me "never sink to their level." I haven't always followed that, but when I do, it usually works out well.

    1. I totally agree. When I look back at the times I didn't sink, I feel really good about those decisions, even to this day.

  10. Thank you! I could definitely have used this quote when I was younger. And, there are still days that I think I might need it nailed to my forehead - not many, thankfully, but sometimes.

    1. No need to nail it to your forehead - that would hurt! :o Bookmark this blog post or write the quote out and stick on the bathroom mirror or the refrigerator instead.

  11. It's a great quote. When someone wronged me, I'd always dream up these amazing revenge scenarios, but I never did any of them.

My mudslinging has been all in my mind. :)

    1. Those imaginary revenge scenarios were not in vain! You are a writer, after all. :)

  12. So, so true! It was so hard to bite my tongue when I was younger so like most folks, I did and said stupid stuff. As I've grown older, I've learned to think before I act or even open my mouth.

    1. I believe most of us learn that and put it into practice. Unfortunately, it's not ALL of us....

  13. You and me both. Sometimes I'll rewrite an email ten times to tone it down. I'm much too direct and honest which can be a bad combo almost anywhere online. :-)

    1. I've spent a lot of time on emails, trying to make sure I don't come across as bitchy, etc. And even though it seems like others don't use the same courtesy, I'm still good with how I handle things.

(Although, I have stopped spending SO much time on crafting those emails. Sometimes, enough is enough and you've just got to let it go.)

  14. This is a great quote and so true. Sometimes I have ended up deleting entire emails after I've stopped and taken a deep breath. I was always glad I didn't hit send right away!

  15. I'm better at pausing before replying and pressing send, but in person, my mouth still struggles to keep it all locked in...

  16. I learned early on to never respond quickly to an irritating email. I always remember that no one can make you angry. You chose to be angry. I try to chose not to be for my own sake.

    1. Excellent point about how we get to choose whether or not to be angry. We control our reaction.

  17. Haha! I love the cursing and name calling behind closed doors. At least it isn't to their face!! That's got to count for something, right? :) Oh, and great quote!

  18. HA! Great quote. I often say I'm wiser not perfect too. :) Have a lovely weekend.
