Motivational Monday

I WATCHED OLD #XFILES
EPISODES LAST NIGHT AND
ATE CHIPS AHOY.
I AM A PERSON THAT
ACCOMPLISHES THINGS
(Mindy McGinnis)

I pretty much snorted coffee all over myself when I first read this. Partly because it's hilarious, and partly because, if you replace XFiles and Chips Ahoy with Project Runway and Reese's Chocolate Peanut Butter candies, you would have . . . me. Even the tortoises have accomplished more than I have this past month.

So, if you're feeling something similar, join me in shutting off the TV, putting down the sweets and making this a better, more productive week - and month! - all around. Like Tim Gunn says, "Make it work!" (See, too much TV. Sigh.)

  1. I'm guilty of watching way too much TV too. I tell myself I'm going to write now, but I never do. I blame my mother:) She always has the TV on in the house, playing loudly.

    1. Now that we don't have traditional cable, I find a binge watch a lot more. But at least I'm watching on purpose and not just scrolling through the channels watching any old thing.

  2. I really should turn off the TV and put down the sweets, too. Then maybe I could be productive and a bit healthier!

    1. Hmm, I'm not sure if I could handle both productive and healthier - my body wouldn't know what was happening! :)

  3. The weather decides how much tv I watch. If it's cold and wet, I'm indoors by a fire with a good book or a good movie.

    1. For me, it's more my mood. Sometimes I just want to - need to! - veg.

    1. I never really got into X-Files, and I don't know why. It's the kind of thing I would enjoy. Hmm, maybe another binge watching session is in order.... :o

  5. Wait...the TV shuts off?

I started off the year well, productivity-wise, but really fell off that wagon at the end of the month. I shall be attempting to get back on track this month.

  7. Scary - I used to do exactly that. Only now it's healthier snacks and a huge list of shows.

  8. I actually did get a lot or writing done in January. December was my slack month. This month is rewrites and edits for me.

  9. Ha! TV isn't really an issue with me. The 5yo and 2yo don't let me sit through even a 20 minute episode without at least 10 interruptions.

  10. I'm torn between cheering you on in your quest to shut off the TV... and asking if you're watching Project Runway Junior. (They make Tim so happy; I love it!)

    1. I only like the Project Runway spin-offs that Tim is on, and I hadn't realized he was on that one! Hmm, you're not helping, Jillian.... :)

    2. Sorry! ;-) I have to recommend it in that case though. It can't match the very best seasons of the original, but overall it's a welcome breath of fresh air with real talent, and Tim's joy at working with non-jaded designers is just lovely.

  13. I actually had a productive January.
But that was because I'm contributing to an anthology, and was forced to work on edits to have the story ready for the end-of-January deadline.
We'll see what February has in store. Hope I don't get lazy now.

  14. LOL LOL take out the Chips Ahoy and it's me. I accomplished a lot last night too by watching X-Files again.
Shutting off the TV??? That's crazy talk LOL.

    1. Okay, you all are not helping. With all this X-Files talk, I actually checked to see if Hulu has old episodes and it does! Trouble! :o

  15. I was going to be productive on Sunday evening, but then I had to watch Grease Live. Doh!!!

  16. Ha! That's a great quote. I know if I want to get stuff done, I have to be careful of what TV shows I put on. I like the background noise, but it has to be mindless TV for me to be productive.

    1. Isn't it hilarious?

I can work with some noise, like traffic in the background kind of thing, but not TV or music.
