IWSG: We Get By With A Little Help From Our Friends

I'm sure you've all noticed the talk lately about how blogging is dying - we're utilizing other forms of social media to connect and to promote, we've run out of things to say, we're too busy writing and/or living to write our own posts and to reply to comments let alone read other blogs and comment on those posts.

And while some things have changed - here's one that hasn't: YOU

So, I'm taking this opportunity to thank all my blogging buddies and all my readers for the encouragement and for the support and for giving my stories - the ones with heart and soul, the ones with fangs and fur - room to breathe and corners to crouch in.

Thank. You.

People have been saying blogging has been dead since 2010--and yet here we all are! It's all about community. Some people find it through Twitter, some through Facebook--we find it here, in the IWSG!

I like your enthusiasm. I still prefer blogging, as opposed to other forms of social media. I can't imagine not blogging. All the best with your writing.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

You're absolutely right - it is about community, and where you find it. :)

Yeah, I've been done for a while. It's just not fun anymore and doesn't feel worth the time. But I'm sad on the other hand to see others dropping off too. But I guess like with everything, things change. I'm glad to see you haven't bowed out yet. I'd miss seeing you around. :)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Thank you! I can't imagine not blogging either. :)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

If it's not fun for you anymore, then it's good you stopped. We don't want you to be unhappy! And you can absolutely still read blogs and comment and be a part of the blogging community that way. :)

And thank you for that! It's nice to know I'd be missed. :)

I was going to say that. I think I've been blogging for 4 years now, and they were saying it when I started. lol

Hi,
You are very welcome and thank you for blogging faithfully.
Have a great day.
Shalom,
Patricia

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

We keep on hanging on! :)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Thanks for your comment, Patricia! Wishing you a great day as well.

I hear this often that blogging is dead or on the decline, but here are we all bloggers quietly going about our business :)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

So true! :)

I don't have as much time for it as I used to, but I'm still here! :)

Aw! I'm so stoked to read your latest release (and leave a review of course). Blogging is very much alive, if you can get people to your site. It's the resource, and the other social media aspects are the bookmarks or calling cards. I find most people turn to blogs for information or entertainment. Something to keep in mind, eh?

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

I know some people have left but there are others, like you and I, still going strong.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

It's good that you're still here!

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Aw, thanks, Crystal! I appreciate that. :)

Interesting take on the idea that other social media are like bookmarks and calling cards.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

We certainly are! :)

Kristin Smith said...

Congrats on your latest flash fiction release! I saw it featured on Alex's blog—so exciting!

I may not be the best blogger (and I certainly haven't been the best at visiting other blogs lately) but I don't know what I'd do without all of you and your continued encouragement and support. This writing community is the best!!

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Thank you, Kristin - and thanks for your nice comment over at Alex's.

This writing community is definitely the best. :)

Chrys Fey said...

I'm not going anywhere for a good while. I have my posts for next year planned already. ;)

Jay Noel said...

Thanks for continuing your writing journey and letting us get a peek of your quest. They've been talking about blog's death for YEARS. It has evolved for sure. But it's not dead. Microblogging has taken over, but people still want content they can sink their teeth into.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I still don't know how you do that, Chrys! You're so well organized.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

You're welcome, Jay, although I'm not sure how exciting my quest really is. :)

And I agree about people wanting "content they can sink their teeth into." I know I do.

emaginette said...

You. Are. Welcome.

I didn't know that's what they were saying about blogging. I'm so out of the loop. :-)

Sometimes it's better to be out of the loop. :)

And thank you, Madeline, for sticking with it and us! :)

'They' would say blogging is dying just when I start getting into it. Such is my life. *sigh*

And you know I'm so picking up Garden of Lost Souls the moment I have the extra money, right? Thank. You!

Such a great group all around! :)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

"They" aren't always right, so don't worry! :)

Whenever you get to read the collection, I hope you enjoy it.

Sarah Foster said...

And thank YOU for being an awesome blogging buddy! Blogging can slow down sometimes but I certainly don't think it's dead. I don't know what I would do if I wasn't writing my own blog and visiting others.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I don't know what I would do without all of you either.

Christine Rains said...

What a sweet and warm post. Thank you for that. The IWSG is such an amazing group. I'm immensely grateful. :)

cleemckenzie said...

Some leave, but others come on board, so I don't see blogging dying. I see it changing all the time, so that's exciting. Great to read your post today.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I love being part of the IWSG!

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I'm glad you enjoyed the post. :)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Thank you for your support! Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere.

Elizabeth Seckman said...

You're welcome. It's my pleasure to stop by ;)

I still enjoy blogging. I don't get around as much as I used to , but I don't see myself ever stopping. I'd miss all my bloggy friends too much!!

Yolanda Renée said...

I enjoy blogging too, so much more than the rest of it. I get to write and share, and that's wonderful!
Happy Anniversary to the IWSG! Because of them I discovered the joys of blogging!
Thanks for your comments!

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Alex, if you stopped blogging, I think the whole blogosphere would implode. :)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I would definitely miss everyone, too!

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

The IWSG really is a great group!

Julie Flanders said...

Aww, what a great post. Right back at you.
Blogging is really the only social media I feel at home using. So I'm glad we're all still here.

L. Diane Wolfe said...

After 10 & 1/2 years, I've seen the ups and downs of blogging. It's not dying, just changing.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I'm glad we're all still here, too. :)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I wonder if we often tend to panic and think something is ending when in reality, it's really just evolving, changing?

Anonymous said...

It only dies if we allow it to.

And I'm no murderer :)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Ha ha! :)

Shell Flower said...

Awww. I like how you made this a thank you post. The IWSG is a particularly great bunch of people. I'm not sure blogging is totally dying, but in a way, I am glad if people are living outside or with their families more. Hopefully, we've all just found a better work/online/life balance, which was a hot topic a while back.

J.H. Moncrieff said...

I was overseas, so I missed all this talk about blogging dying. Blogging died? That's a shame. I guess all those people who kept commenting on my unsolved mystery posts while I just wanted to relax on the beach are ghosts. :) Gotta love those sweeping pronouncements some people make...you know what Mark Twain would say to all this.

You're a lovely person, Madeline, and I'm happy if I've given your stories a corner to crouch in, because speaking of corners--you've always been in mine. Thanks for that. xoxo

cleemckenzie said...

That's a very kind post and one we who are sticking out appreciate. Thanks.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I find balance to be tricky - I want to throw myself into projects, but then feel guilty about letting other things go, like exercising and cleaning. Guilty but not that guilty. :)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Aw, thanks, JH! Glad you're back - I was getting worried you got lost in that Romanian forest after all. :)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

You're welcome! :)

Karen Jones Gowen said...

This was my topic too. I guess seeing all the changes with blogging makes one thoughtful about it--where it's been, where it's going and do I still want to do this?

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I do think it's good to step back once in awhile and re-evaluate what we're doing and why.

SK Anthony said...

Aww this was so sweet! Thank YOU right back!!!
I still enjoy blogging and reading blogs. Life gets in the way sure, but it's such a great outlet for me personally. Ah well, hope it survives!

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I hope it survives, too! :)

Patricia Stoltey said...

Hmmm. I was very tempted just now to turn around to see what might be crouching in the corner of my office. See the power of your words?? :D

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

My work here is done. :)

Diane Burton said...

Thank you so much, Madeline and back at you! Without the support of friends & fellow authors, we would be so alone, floundering, frustrated.

Best wishes,
Diane IWSG #95

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

It would be so incredibly lonely! I remember the days before this wonderful community, and I don't want to go back there. :)

Cynthia said...

You're welcome. And thanks for your company as well! For me, blogging is about connecting with others. It isn't about promoting myself. Since I'm an unpublished author ,there really isn't much to promote at this time.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I think as long as we still enjoy blogging, we should go for it. :)

Nick Wilford said...

I recently talked about this - was it for last month's IWSG? Things are changing for sure, but it's hard to imagine not blogging and the camaraderie and support it brings. I definitely plan to keep going as far as I can!

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

I really can't imagine not blogging!

Shannon Lawrence said...

Too many of us enjoy this community to let it go!
