Hey, Watch It!

Well, Game of Thrones is over for the season and the new Fear the Walking Dead (the TWD spin-off/prequel) doesn't start until later this summer, so I'm in a TV-watching rut.

I do watch less TV now that my husband and I no longer have traditional cable. We have Hulu+ and HBO Now, and we occasionally buy some episodes from iTunes. I've also been doing more binge watching.

But I'm still on the lookout for some new stuff to grab me and not let go. What are you watching and loving right now? Why? Is it the characters/actors? Does it have great, snappy lines of dialogue? Is it funny/heartwarming/creepy? Is it "trash" TV that's perfect for vegging out in front of? I'm open to all kinds of stuff so please, share away!

  1. Oddly enough, I have never watched Game of Thrones.

If you have Netflix or Amazon Prime, I can recommend Call the Midwife if you like British tv (set in the 1950s). And of course Downton Abbey (set mostly in the 20s).

    1. I only recently got into GoT - binge watched the first three or four seasons awhile back before getting caught up.

I've heard good things about Downton Abbey but haven't watched it yet - making a note! :)

  2. My hubby and I are rewatching Prison Break, but our personal favorites are (in no particular order) Merlin, The 100, Burn Notice, The Originals, Castle, Firefly (of course!), Sherlock, White Collar, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Flash, Agents of Shield, Green Arrow, Falling Skies, and more...

    1. We watched the first season or two of Prison Break but then stopped watching for some reason that I can't remember now. Definitely need to check that out again - thanks for the reminder!

  3. My summer shows are So You Think You Can Dance (which I don't) and Masterchef (which I'm not)

But I also like watching Parks & Recreation and Gilmore Girls. Character and dialogue, funny and heartwarming.

    1. Ha ha! :) I do like Masterchef, even though it often makes me hungry. Waiting for Top Chef and Project Runway....

  4. Yes, check out Prison Break, I loved it! Not doing much TV watching myself. Trying to put a dent in my TBR pile.

    1. I've given up trying to put a dent in my TBR pile - for every book I read, I add about five to read. :)

  5. Well, on Netflix I've got so many things on my queue that I just bounce around between. Right now it's an anime called Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches and Orange is the New Black. We're sort of watching Between, but it's waning on our interest. Netflix puts out new episodes of it every Thursday.
We don't have cable, just the internet.. so our only TV is Netflix and Crunchyroll. Anything else, we just wait until it gets to Redbox.

    1. In the past, we always had cable so this is the first time we're cutting the cord, so to speak. It feels kind of weird but freeing at the same time. :)

  6. I can't wait for my summer shows to start later this month and next month. I've been in a TV rut for weeks now. The shows I'm waiting to start are Falling Skies, The Last Ship, Under the Dome, Chasing Life, and Big Brother.

    1. I started watching Falling Skies back when it first came out. I remember enjoying it but stopped watching it for some reason. Might have to get back to it!

  7. I've been watching Ripper Street on Netflix. It's a BBC production set in the time right after Jack the Ripper terrorized London. Great characters and portrayals of the terrible plight of the poor during that time.

  8. Defiance just started back up and with a Game of Thrones like bang.
I'm also hooked on America's Got Talent. What can I say?

  9. Love Call the Midwife and Sherlock - and any of the Masterpiece Mysteries. I need to catch up with GOT!

  10. My in-laws introduced me to the Whispers. It is quite creepy and features young (very young) actors, who are gifted at what they do. I don't like watching television. I prefer cable and movies but for this new ABC show, I make an exception.

  11. I know it is dated, but I exercise to the old show Gilmore Girls. Very snappy dialogue, funny, heartwarming, sweet...nothing graphic at all though...about as far away from game of thrones as you can get! :)

  12. It's kind of interesting how things like Netflix make binge watching more prevalent. I hear a lot of people that say that they binge watch sometimes. And it's always people with a service like Netflix.

    1. We binge-watched the first few seasons of GoT. I think some shows are just made for that, are even more enjoyable that way. :)

  13. Thanks to Netflix, we've been streaming a few series lately since we don't have cable. Halt and Catch Fire is good, and Agents of Shield gets better. Can't wait for season 5 of Walking Dead + the spin-off sounds very cool.

  14. I'm watching Castle at the moment - the new series has just hit us. I'm also a fan of Murdoch Mysteries - I love the nerdiness of how they mention modern day inventions like email. The series just finished here though, and on a cliff-hanger as well argh!!

  15. I watch TV on my laptop while I'm working...I get a lot of stuff from YouTube if I can or Netflix or Hulu. My husband's a traditional TV watcher, so we can't cut the cable cord because of him.

    1. We're still getting used to the whole no traditional TV thing. So far, it's been pretty good.

  16. I need to watch Game of Thrones, I have no idea why I haven't. We just started Wayward Pines on Fox. I don't usually like horror type stuff but it grabbed me from the first episode.
We love Hell on Wheels and the new season starts in July. Cannot wait.
