Motivational Monday

TRUST YOUR INNER STORYTELLER.
IN FACT, THE PERFECT FINAL DRAFT OF YOUR NOVEL
IS ALREADY WRITTEN INSIDE YOU,
YOU SIMPLY HAVE TO ENGAGE IN THE
PROCESS OF DIGGING IT OUT.
(Donald Maass)

Oh, I so desperately hope this is true!

I've got a shovel, a flashlight and some chocolate.

I've got my WiP. I've got a handful of characters, one of whom totally creeps me out. (She's why I have the flashlight.) I've got ideas for scenes and plots and subplots. I've got handwritten notes I can actually read, and I have typed-up notes I can read but that don't make a lot of sense. (I'll deal with that later.)

I've got support from my husband and encouragement from you all. Even the tortoises promised to be good. (Although it was Mrs. L who promised. Larry just blinked lazily at me from the water dish/spa so there's no telling what that means.)

And I've got my inner storyteller. (She's why I have the chocolate.)

We've all got our own inner storyteller. Trust yours. Let him or her out to play. Today

  1. No inhibitions - just write!
Although watch out for Larry. He aims to make trouble.

  2. Best of luck on your storytelling journey Madeline. It's good that you have the support of your husband, and also the support of chocolate lol :)

    1. I don't know what I'd do without choco…um, I mean, my husband. :)

  3. This is exactly what I'm doing today. I'm outlining a story that I had in mind for months. Great post.

  4. I like that quote. It's very inspirational.

  5. That quote is great! I love that one of your characters freaks you out. I take that as a very good sign. ;)

P.S. Congrats on your Liebster nomination from Kristin as well. :)

    1. I hope it really is a good sign and not that I'm losing my mind. :)

  6. Chocolate is definitely designed to eek the story out. Just write everything, and see what still makes sense later. Have fun writing :-)

  7. Our inner storyteller need what they need. Mine needs coffee usually and wine once in a while, but chocolate is also always welcomed.

I'll try to let mine out later to play, but you have fun writing! :)

    1. I need coffee on a daily basis. I'd like wine and chocolate daily, too, but then my inner storyteller would get no work done whatsoever. :)

  8. I'm outlining a story, and I also desperately hope that Donald Maas quote is true!
I'm wishing you lots of good moments as we let the inner storyteller out to play!
    Enjoy!

  9. I keep feeding my inner storyteller chocolate...I wish it was impacting her waistline instead of mine!

  10. I put my inner story teller on hold while I finished the landscaping this weekend. Back to it tonight.

    1. I think I'd be too tired to write after all that yard work. Good for you!

  11. Tell Larry to get with the program, and today I take your advice!

  12. This is great advice! I have a character in my next novel who totally creeps me out, too. It's crazy what our creative mind conjures up when we let it run free.

    1. I have a habit of reining my creative mind back a bit. Sometimes I'm scared of where it wants to go. I've been told I need to let it loose on the page, that I can always go back and "tame" what's there later.
