G is for . . . THE GARDEN OF LOST SOULS

Welcome to The Blogging from A-Z Challenge April 2014! This year, I’m offering up a story – each one 100 words or fewer - for each letter of the alphabet.

Some are heartfelt, poignant, sweet. Others are…not.

I hope you enjoy them.

THE GARDEN OF LOST SOULS

Everyone in Beth’s family grows gorgeous gardens of flowers, fruits, vegetables.

She prefers planting pieces of the evil dead – teeth from murderers, nail clippings from thieves, eyelashes from other unspeakable monsters.

Withered limbs sprout.  Mangled faces twist to the sun. Grotesque, misshapen heads bow as she walks among the rows.

Julie - I really did try to alternate the "dark" and the "lighter" stories! :)

Sophie, Phoenix, Kyra, Tasha - thank you!

Susan - I don't have a green thumb but even I don't grow anything like this. :)

Detoutcoeur - go for it! Good luck to you, too!

That was awesome. Oh man... What kind of craziness do you have going in your head to produce this kind of epicness? (That's totally meant in a good way.)

Whoa . . . you're gettin' dark on me, girlfriend. I LOVE IT!!!

Crystal, Jolie, Alex, Donna - you all crack me up! Glad I'm not the only one who enjoys reading and writing dark and twisted stuff. :)

That is scary and a bit twisted. I have been reading posts from A-Z and my brain is slowly turning to mush and I stop here and read about that lovely little garden gone wrong. You got my attention! Brilliant...and wild! ♥

Tyrean Martinson said...

Whoa - creepy and vengeful. And BTW - congrats on your story at Nail Polish stories!

Love it, love it! The first paragraph had me thinking of the happiest garden I could think of, and then all of the sudden it was like a zombie field. ;)

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Kathy - I know what you mean about the brain turning to mush. I'm glad I was able to shake things up a bit for you. :)

Tyrean - congrats to you, too! And thank you for the Hint Fiction contest link. Since I had a story in the first collection, I'm not sure I should press my luck again! But we'll see…. Good luck if you give it a go!

Madeline - glad you enjoyed it!

I would imagine that Beth's arrangements would not be found in the State Fair's flower exhibits.
Love this, and the brevity. You paint a whole story with very few strokes.

Kristin Smith said...

Whoa! So creepy! And very creative! Loved it! :)

Patricia Stoltey said...

I think Beth is a writer of horror stories.

Suzi said...

Wow, that was great. It could totally make an interesting novel. Or short story at least. Have you thought about doing more with that?

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Susan, Kristin - thank you!

Patricia - either that or the protagonist - antagonist? - of one. :)

Suzi - you never know…. :)

If that's not a fairy tale villain then I don't know what is!
