King's Speech: E is for EYES

Regular readers of The Shellshank Redemption know how much I enjoy a good quote (see Motivational Mondays) and that I’m a huge fan of Stephen King (see the King of All Days Part I and Part II.) So, for the 2013 A-Z Challenge, I decided to combine the two, using some of my favorite King quotes about reading, writing and life in general. Enjoy!

*****

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.
When you find something at which you have talent,
you do that thing (whatever it is)
until your fingers bleed or your EYES pop out of your head.
(Stephen King)

I believe everyone has a gift, a talent for something. Are you a fabulous cook? Do you always make people feel relaxed and comfortable? Make them laugh? Are you a great father? Teacher? Mechanic? Do your photos make people smile? Do your scary stories make people turn on all the lights in the middle of the night?

I am grateful for my gifts – my imagination, my writing ability – and I hope everyone is able to recognize their own and be happy and grateful and make the most of them.

  1. Well, I am not a fabulous cook, so I guess I have to stick with writing. =)

  2. I think I'm constantly learning what I'm good at. When I was younger I used to think it was short stories, as I got older It was being a mom and now It has changed again I am good at writing, I am good at being mom, and I found I am good at being an editor.
    Love this post!

  3. Great idea for AtoZ, Madeline! Awesome quote, excellent post. I agree, and I try to convince my students of the same, whether or not they realize (yet) what their gifts are.

  4. MJ - you and me both. :)

Summer - I think our gifts and what we're good at changes and evolves over time and matches up to where we are in our lives. Thank you for Following us here at TSR!

Milo - thanks! It came down to the wire. :) And that's what makes you such a good teacher - how you encourage the kids to find and use their talents.

  5. Not sure how much writing is my gift, but I've tried. I do give my guitar playing my all. Haven't bled my fingers yet though.

  6. Sometimes being forced into a situation for which you feel you have no talent allows you to see that you were wrong -- we are capable of more than we believe.
    :-)

I love Stephen King's quotes as well, Roland

  8. I wish my talent was to be a drop dead sexy super model. I think I'd work that all day long.

  9. Great quote! You caught me with this one. Description followed by Eyes...I thought we'd be talking about what we observe.

My fingers have never bled over a keyboard, but they've sure been painful at times. Does that count? ;)

  11. Oh yes, this is perfect!
Not sure what I have a talent for but there are hobbies that I do until my fingers bleed. Love the quote!

I'm very grateful for the things I can do, they keep me sane!

    Wonderful post :)

  12. Lexie - if you do those hobbies that intensely, you probably have a knack for them. :)

  13. I feel like I took forever to find something I was good at, or at least I hope I'm good at writing! I do kind of have to agree with Michael and his wish, that would be a good one to have LOL.

  14. Love Stephen King. Great Quote.

I am learning to cook and I am grateful and thrilled every time something isn't an epic fail.

I love my imagination, my ability to write and I'm always grateful to my muse for hanging in there with me.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Jai - gotta thank that muse. And thank you for Following us here at TSR!

Me - see, I'm not a great cook or good with people. I'm glad I have writing. :)

  17. I agree. We need to embrace what we're good at instead of questioning it all the time. For some odd reason, it can be easier said than done, though.
