Give Me an E! EXPERIENCE

Welcome to The Blogging A-Z Challenge April 2012! Some of the most popular posts here at The Shellshank Redemption are the Motivational Mondays. So, after consulting the tortoises, we decided to make April our Motivational Month! Please join us for this (almost!) daily dose of alphabetical inspiration. We hope you enjoy it!

* SO HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS THE RIGHT PATH TO CHOOSE TO GET THE RESULT YOU DESIRE? AND THE HONEST ANSWER IS THIS. YOU WON’T. AND ACCEPTING THAT GREATLY EASES THE ANXIETY OF YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCE. (Jon Stewart) *

I don’t know about you all but I wish I had known this ages ago. I tried so hard to figure it all out - go to this school, major in this, get this kind of job, live here, do this, do that. I tried to make the best life plan possible and then stick with it. Yeah, right.

And you know what? I’m glad it didn’t work out the way I had planned. I don’t know who that person would be now, if I would recognize her walking down the street. Things happened. I made choices. I took risks. Here I am. And I’m good with that.

  2. I find things happen around me for a reason - I didn't get one job I really wanted, because another one was better for me etc. It's not always easy - some of the paths are truly hard, but they always end up in the right place.

  3. Also with you on this. I wish I had heard this 20 years ago! I really thought I had to have it all figured out. Great quote!

  4. People can tell you things, but the only way you truly understand it is by experiencing it. Whatever that it may be.

  5. There's no easy way to work out what to do in life. Or at least that's what my horoscope said this morning.

  6. M.J. - I'll tell the tortoises. :)

Annalisa - I think when you're on that hard path, it's difficult to see that it's actually going somewhere, you know?

Julie - good to know I'm not alone. :)

    Ruth - very true!

    Moody - :)

  7. You're right. You never know what experience might change you, mold you, deliver you...all to become the person you are supposed to be.

  8. Loved this quote--and like you, my life plan hasn't exactly gone as planned. But I think I'm richer for that.

Also LOVE that you are doing quotes for your A to Z Challenge--I love the quotes you've picked so far...bed, decorating (I'm pretty fond of Anna Quindlen as well.)

And let's see, liked Memoirs of a Geisha so I'm making a note of your book recommendation. I'm sure I'll be making a note about your own published book one day. "Back Roads" was practically perfect in every way!

  9. I love that you wrote about experience. I too wouldn't change a thing! All my experiences (for good or bad) made me who I am.
Terrific post! And nice to meet you!

  10. Brinda - that's the things, isn't it? You never know until it's already happened. :)

Cathy - thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed "Back Roads," too.

Lisa - thanks! Glad you stopped by.

  12. Love this. However I know even if someone told me this a long time ago I wouldn't have believed it till I lived it. Great post!

  13. Hi Madeline,
I've heard that experience is the best teacher--and I believe that to be true. I'm also a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and there are no coincidences. Thanks for getting me to think such deep thoughts so early in the morning.

    Jaimee - you're right. I don't know as I would've listened either. :)

Donna - I'm glad these posts are getting your morning off to a good start. Me, I need coffee first. :)
