Fashion Advice for Writers

I've decided I need to take fashion lessons from my 2 year old niece.

Working from home, I wear what I want. This usually consists of a t-shirt and shorts or a t-shirt and yoga pants or a t-shirt and pajama pants or...you get the idea. The other day, I received a picture of my niece cooking at her little kitchen playset.  She wore pajamas (and looked way cuter than Aunt Maddie does in hers) but, and here's the kicker - on top of those pajamas, she wore a frilly, pink princess dress-up gown AND...AND...AND a sparkly tiara with flashing lights!

Oh, I think I need one of those! Or a crown of some sort. Some kind of Writing Hat that will not only make me look fabulous but will also hold all the words and ideas in my brain and force them down into my fingertips and out onto the page/screen. Sigh. If only. Hmm, maybe my niece will let me borrow her tiara.  If not, maybe I'll ask my nephew if I can borrow his cool plastic robot arms.  Those might work, too...

  1. I have a tinfoil hat I put on sometimes, but if I let you touch it you might break the spell!

Yes, fashion does suffer. I work from home, so if I look frumpy, ah well. You mention yoga pants and pajama pants. Some mornings, I roll out of bed in a T-shirt and underdrawers, and if my daughter has a ride to school so I don't even have to venture out . . . it could be a little while before I put on pants of any kind, particularly in the summer.

That's probably something I should keep to myself. But I think it's a good indication I need to give fashion, or at least basic dressing and human rituals, a little more thought!

  2. I know some people say if you work from home, you should still get dressed like you're going to an office. Yeah. I don't think so.

And don't worry, I would never ask to borrow your tinfoil hat. It would probably clash with one of the many NaNoWriMo t-shirts I wear. :)

  4. I like the blinking tiara, how can great ideas not flow forth from something that neat?

  5. Not only would the ideas flow but they'd probably be so blindingly brilliant I'd have to get some cool shades to shield my eyes. :)

  7. That's because she's a big sweetie. Maybe we could get matching ones? (But then Mrs. Larry might want one, too...) :)
