How Does Your Garden Grow?

I am not much of a gardener.  My Christmas cactus blooms in November (and apparently February.)  My best surviving outside plant looks like this:

To be fair, it is a plumeria and it's supposed to look like a stick stuck in dirt for most of the year. It will bloom in the Spring - if I don't touch it.

I do love flowers though. My favorite is the sunflower. For Christmas, my husband bought me some sunflower seeds and four matching pots to plant them in.  I checked on them every day and the day little green shoots emerged, I cheered.  Most of them would grow and survive in spite of me! I always knew they were strong and hardy flowers.

Like my writing.  Despite all my self-doubt and self-sabotage, all my complaining and whining and tears, my stories will grow. I hope they will blossom and move people - to smile, to laugh, and to maybe cry a little at the power, the simplicity, the beauty a few words, a few green shoots, can have over us.

  1. I love analogies with pictures! Especially good ones like yours.

P.S. I just moved a fern back outside. Technically, after I trimmed the dead parts, it was more of a frond.

  2. I have a few of those "fronds" myself, Cathy. :)
