Here's Hoping

January felt like a looooong month around here. If I managed a creative thought at all, it was like a slow pour of syrup. Only not nearly as sweet.

But, keeping in mind my “keeping it simple” plan for 2026, I set my fumble fingers to “create” and took an art class, coming away with a not too shabby mosaic flowerpot. While I could’ve done without the grouting part of the project, I did thoroughly enjoy designing and gluing the tiles and doodads to the pot.

Here’s hoping for a bright and busy-in-the-best-way possible February!

WRITING

Since my writing mojo seems to be hunkered down and dozing with the tortoises, I’ve mostly been playing with a prompt here and trying out a theme there.

READING

If you’d like some chills - of the reading kind, that is! - try A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St. James. It had me looking over my shoulder more times than I’d like to admit!

WATCHING

We’ve been re-watching Downton Abbey. I’d forgotten how much I enjoy it! When we’re done with the series, it’s on to the three Downton movies, two of them new to us.

How did January go for you? Is your creativity hibernating? Have you re-watched and/or re-read anything lately?

  1. I like that you're keeping it simple in 2026. And it's cool that you took an art class in January. It's definitely been a long month here.

    1. I'm trying! :)

I really enjoy taking art classes, even if the results aren't always pretty. :)

    1. Yes! Now, if I only I can manage to not complicate "simple".... :)

  3. Do you want to swap? I was out of town for half of January (two separate trips) and feel like I'm still trying to get my feet under me for this new year. Come to Florida. Let us warm you up. I mean, now. Not the previous week. It was rediculous here.

    1. I'm already in Florida, Crystal. :) You're totally right about last week. The tortoises and I are now finally starting to thaw out. And I know it's cold for here when even my husband puts on a jacket without me having to tell him to :)

  4. My creativity wasn't hibernating, for once, which was unexpected, but this cold was definitely making me want to hibernate.

Hope you and the tortoises survived this cold spell!

    1. Excellent on your creativity not hibernating!

Even though it's warm in the house and in their tank, the tortoises just don't act like themselves when it's this cold for this long. They look at me like "We thought we lived in Florida?!"

    1. Yes! This is only the second time we've watched it, and we're enjoying it just as much - if not more! - than the first time. :)

  6. Sounds like a busy month. To tell the truth, mine was pretty lazy.

    1. It wasn't so much busy. It was more just really long but not necessarily in a good way.

  7. January flew by for me. Probably because I was working the day job as that helps make time fly. ^^;;

  8. January was a month of adjustment for me. I got a new car, a new dishwasher, and I enrolled my daughter in Driver's Ed (now I continually pester her to do the online classes). I think that's why I forgot to post.
I hope you get your writing mojo back!

    1. It sounds like you definitely put the "new" in the new year, Loni! :)

And thanks! I hope so, too.
