When Motivation Melts

It's been a long hot summer - is it really only the middle of July? Sheesh! - and my creative oomph is melting like chocolate ice cream down the sides of a sugar cone.

So, if you're feeling the same, these quotes might help - two for keeping on track, one for a good chuckle.

Wait . . . do you hear that? Voices from the freezer. Ben? Jerry? Uh-oh, I better rescue them! I'll need a spoon. You know, just in case things get yummy . . . uh, I mean messy.

How's your creative oomph and motivation holding up so far this summer? Any advice for keeping it from melting? Do you have a favorite ice cream or other stay-cool treat?

  1. Stay inside with the air conditioning!
Ready to be motivated and write the rest of the month.

  2. Sometimes when motivation melts it could be time for a vacation--or at least a change of scenery.

  3. The brutal heat has actually kept me inside so I'm getting a lot of writing done. I did buy some frozen yogurt today.

    1. Frozen yogurt should help with the heat. Maybe the writing, too. :)

  4. Good description. Yeah, my creative oomph... no, my total oomph... has been melting like crazy lately, but I'm working on it. :)

I believe a vacation is exactly what I need. Surrounded by grandchildren. They may suck out my energy, but they'll definitely rejuvenate my joy.

    Have a super weekend!

    1. Me, too. It can apply to so many areas of our lives, not just writing.

  6. The heat's been really crazy this summer, hasn't it! I love ice-cream but sometimes just chilled fruit is good enough for me.

  7. It's been a lot hotter in the UK than we're used to, so I'm struggling. However, my current WIP is partly set on a very hot day which means I've been able to use it for research!

And now I want chocolate ice cream :-)

    1. I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with the heat, but good for you for turning it to your advantage re research. Hmm, maybe your characters need to eat ice cream? :)

  9. PJs and yoga pants are clothes! If not, I'm in trouble because then I own very few clothes. *LOL* I'm feeling the heat and it's melting my oomph too. I need to get back into the swing of things.

    1. You and me, both! Of course, Minion pajama pants count as clothes. They're different than my actual pajamas, after all. Sheesh! :)

  10. I've been trying to stay in the AC and get some writing done. It's been working! Since June, I've gotten nearly 40,000 words written.

  11. I stay indoors during most of the summer due to the heat. And that's when I usually get a lot of work done.

    1. Summer in FL is like winter in a lot of other places - instead of hunkering down when it's cold, we stay inside when it's hot, hot, hot. :)

  12. Oh yeah, the heat just saps the creative energy out of me. I hope you find some cool creativity in the freezer there with Ben and Jerry!

    1. If Ben and Jerry and I keep meeting like this, there won't be room in the freezer for all of us! :o

  13. I'm doing okay, but it would be nice to turn the heat down a little. hehehe

  14. These are great quotes! Yes, the heat has been brutal in my corner of the universe. My strategy has been to stay out of it whenvever possible, meaning early morning workouts/runs, AC the rest of the day. It's too hot to even enjoy a glass of wine on the porch right now.

    1. I hope to try some early morning runs again one day soon, but I'm not there yet.

Maybe you need to switch to sweet tea for on the porch and save the glass of wine for inside. :)

  15. I'm losing my job in 3 weeks, so I'm actually getting some writing done. It's a nice escape from the job hunting stress.

  16. Honestly, teaching is killing my writing spark. I signed up for a summer-long contract of teaching daily, not prepared for the amount of marking, lesson planning, and behavioural issues. Never again!

  17. Ice cream is definitely my favorite stay cool treat. I eat way too much of it. Pretty sure I'd be at my goal weight if I just gave up ice cream at this point. Love the quotes! I enjoy writing at night when it's finally cool enough to open the windows and let in the breeze.

    1. Give up ice cream?! Never! :)

Writing at night with the windows open to a cool breeze sounds lovely. I should be able to do that here in, oh maybe October.... :o
