Winter is Coming . . . .

Okay, not here in FL, where it is melt-your-face hot.

But it is on Game of Thrones and I. Cannot. Wait.

Even if it means this guy shows up -

From HBO.com

In preparation for Season 7 - starting July 16th! - my husband and I have been re-watching GoT from the very first season, and I am still blown away by how amazing it is.

One of my favorite things about the show is how no character is safe. No one. Anyone from a butcher's boy to a king is fair game. You only have to watch the end of the very first episode to see that. It drives the suspense so far up I watch every episode on the edge of my seat - even though I already know what's coming!

This brings me to the characters. Characters I love to hate - Cersei! Joffrey! Ramsay! - and ones I love to love - Brienne! Samwell! Davos! I know what all of them are about to do. I know the horrible decisions they're about to make and yet I sit on the couch yelling at the TV, begging them to do something, anything, differently this time. (Sansa, you're killing me! And Theon, please don't go back to the Iron Islands!)

And the dialogue! The clever quips! The names! My husband and I walk around quoting lines from the show, and in our house I am known as Mother of Tortoises. (It doesn't have the same ring as Mother of Dragons, I know, but I make it work.)

Yes, I am an adult (supposedly) but stories of all kinds - GoT, movies, books, my own creepy ideas  - make me feel like a kid at Christmas. It's like opening a wonderfully wrapped, giant box full of dragons and detectives and old women who see ghost children. People I know in "real life" often don't understand that but you all do.

It is known.

Are you a Game of Thrones fan? Do you have a favorite character? Line? Scene? Episode? (Just be careful of spoilers, please!) And if GoT isn't your thing, what is? I can always use more stories in my life.

  1. It's a brilliant series.
We don't have HBO, so I wait until the end of each season and then get it for one month and binge watch.

    1. Brilliant is the perfect word for it!

You have excellent discipline, Alex - waiting until the end of the newest season to watch. I'm pretty sure I could not do that. :)

  2. Mother of Tortoises - love it! I've seen some of Game of Thrones and read a couple of the books. I like it, but I can't say that I love it. There must be something wrong with me because everyone else it seems is a huge fan. :-)

    1. I didn't watch it when it first came out, but I heard so many good things about it, I eventually caved - and so glad I did. :)

But not everything is for everybody. There are a number of big movies, TV shows, books, etc that a lot of people love that leave me kind of meh.

  3. I am a newer fan of GoT. I love the characters and the story. Like Alex, I don't have HBO, so I have to wait until the season is out and then I get it from my local library.

    1. I think we did the same thing with the first few seasons of GoT - got the DVDs from the library. Then we were hooked! :)

  4. We're all so into it. I rewatched the entire series over the course of two months in April and May when the new season usually started. Thinking I'll watch season 6 again if I have some rainy days this week. Like lots of people, I do like Tyrion. I want Sansa to make good decisions. And because I love family, I just want all the Starks to be together and get along this season.

    1. We've still got half of season 5 and all of 6 to re-watch, but I am so looking forward to some more binge-watching. :)

Love Tyrion! And I couldn't stand Sansa in the beginning, but I have grown to love her and root for her.

  5. I haven't watched GoT yet, or read the books. I'm sensing a huge time suck, so I'm waiting until I have more leisure time.

    1. I didn't read the books, just went right for the show. And if you end up watching and getting hooked, you will totally want to binge on it, so good call on waiting until you have some time.

  6. I love Game of Thrones but always have to wait until the DVDs release on Netflix...a painful wait but rewarding when I can start binge watching. My favorite character is Tyrion Lannister.

  8. I love the show and the books. Brienne and Arya are my favorites. I love all the mystery, suspense, and intrigue. It's such a thick story, so many layers.

    1. I love Brienne! Arya, too, although that whole storyline with the many faces, the girl is no one, etc left me kind of meh.

  9. It's hard to pick a single favorite out of GOT, but I loved the storyline with Arya Stark in the second season when she gets those three deaths gifted from Jaqen.

    1. Isn't it amazing how many ways there are to give and to receive the gift of stories? :)
