Picture It!

I thought I'd go visual with this post and show some photos - taken by my husband or myself - of the area where we live. We by no means live in the country, but to a girl who grew up in the city, it's close enough. (One day, I'll have to tell you about the wild chicken . . . .)

Ah, sunrise!

This guy might need extra postage.

This cobweb is NOT a reflection
of my cleaning abilities.

Sandhill cranes, protecting their nest.
Check out the egg!

Every place has pros and cons,
but I love where I live

Oh, and the tortoises want to make sure you check out their two new photos over on the righthand sidebar near the top . . . .

Do you take photos of your daily life or do you wait for an event or a vacation? What critters share your space - inside or outside? Do you love where you live?

  1. Great photos! We can pretty much say we live in the countryside - surrounded by farms and sheep - but three minutes from our main town which has everything we need, so it's a great mix. The sunrise and rainbow photos are beautiful, the frog looks like he's thinking "How am I getting out of here?", but my favourite is the cobweb - it looks like a mammoth spider spun a web that covers the entire tree! The tortoise photos are cute. I do take photos of my dogs if they're doing cute stuff - should post them sometime!

    1. That cobweb was strewn across an outside gate leading into our development. My husband and I were out for a walk, and when we saw it, I was like whoa!

You should totally post some pics! I don't usually but this was a fun one to do, and I'm glad I did it. I hope to do more in the future. :)

  2. You managed to find the country in your not country surroundings.
That frog probably surprised a few people.

    1. I'm just glad my husband was at the mail box on the day of the frog. I would have jumped sky high and screamed. :o

  3. You live in a beautiful place! I love the frog photo.

You need to post about your chicken soon. :)

I have a wild chicken story too, back before we raised chickens.

    1. I'm sure your wild chicken story is better than mine. Mine is probably only funny to me because I'm such a chicken (ha! get it?!)

We share our home with an old black Lab who is a wonderful member of our family.

  6. Lovely photos! I like the catch with the dew-covered web. I love where I live, and frequently take pictures, though I've gotten bad about it since I started working from home, because I forget to take breaks.

  7. Great photos! I love the one of the frog. I take probably an unnecessary number of pictures of my cat.

    1. I take unnecessary photos of the tortoises, too. Although, they of course, think the pics are very necessary. :)

  8. Lovely photos, especially the rainbow. I love taking photos on my daily dog walk - I usually take the same views, but the weather makes them look so different. I think taking time to appreciate your area is important... my dog, less so, so he nudges me if I stop walking for too long.

    1. The light and the weather can really change up the same view.

I've read about acting like a tourist in your hometown, something I definitely want to try one of these days.

  10. Very nice photos! I've been trying to make myself use the camera more, even to the extent of setting it right on the coffee table as a reminder. Photography is a fun way to develop focus and make us see the whole picture when we're looking through that view finder.

    1. Thanks! I use my phone's camera so it's pretty much always with me, if not always easily accessible.

  11. Sometimes I love where I live. This winter it's been a little disappointing as far as snowfall, but there are still many perks.

    1. I enjoy the photos you post!

The frog is giving the tortoises a run for their money, although we all know who the true stars of the blog are.... :)

I used to have a turtle, but you really make me want to get a tortoise.

  14. Aww, I love the new photos of your cuties! Of course they are always so photogenic.
Fun to see some of your little place in the world. Love that guy in the mailbox.

    1. Mrs. L is especially. She's always so alert and interested in everything. Larry, handsome fellow that he is, tends to resemble a rock. But a cute rock. :)

    1. Hmm, does he want to go to a pond somewhere else in the state? Or does he want to go international? He'll need air mail postage for sure then. :)

  16. Those pics are great, and the one of the frog in the mailbox cracked me up. Years ago, we found a box turtle inside of our mailbox. (Something tells me he had a little "help" getting there...)

We currently share our house with two cats... or as they seem to think of it, they share their house with us. Over the years, we've had all kinds of critters: dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, hermit crabs, tropical fish, and eel... you name it. Critters make a house a home.

    1. Oh, the poor turtle in the mailbox!

It's funny because I liked animals fine and we had family pets, but ever since we got the tortoises, I definitely feel more like a pet person. :)

  17. Not sure where my earlier comment went... maybe you have to approve them before they show up on your blog? Anyhow, I remembered one notable pet I forgot to mention. Yoda, an African spurred tortoise. He was teeny when we bought him for my daughter, but he was HUGE when she had to donate him to a preserve. He was taking up more room in her apartment than she was. :)

    1. Yep, the blog comments are moderated.

Oh, Yoda! We made sure - hopefully! - that our tortoises won't get that big, but the way Larry eats, I'm starting to wonder and worry! :o

  18. I do love where I live. If my house wasn't too big for us, I would never move. It's beautiful, relatively quiet and lots of wildlife around. Lovely pictures. Cobwebs are so beautiful and creepy at the same time.

    1. I feel the same way about cobwebs! They're so intricate and lovely, like snowflakes, yet clingy in a hideous way. Shudder.
