Motivational Monday

WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING FICTION,
LONG OR SHORT,
THE LEARNING CURVE NEVER ENDS.

I MAY BE A PROFESSIONAL WRITER TO THE IRS
WHEN I FILE MY TAX RETURN,
BUT IN CREATIVE TERMS,
I'M STILL AN AMATEUR,
STILL LEARNING MY CRAFT.
WE ALL ARE.

EVERY DAY SPENT WRITING IS
A LEARNING EXPERIENCE,
AND A BATTLE TO DO SOMETHING NEW.
PHONING IT IN IS NOT ALLOWED.
ONE CANNOT INCREASE ONE'S TALENT -
THAT COMES WITH THE PACKAGE - BUT IT IS
POSSIBLE TO KEEP TALENT FROM SHRINKING.
AT LEAST, I LIKE TO THINK SO.
AND HEY! I STILL LOVE IT.
(Stephen King)

Yes! Just...yes!

Do you still love what you do? I hope so! Let's make sure we keep learning, growing, challenging ourselves in our craft, in our art, in our lives.

  1. Every time I list writer on my tax forms I'm always afraid they're going to write back and call me a liar. LOL!

  2. I do still love it a lot. But I always feel like there is more to learn.

    1. I love it, too!

Well, if Stephen King is still learning then I know I certainly am! :)

  3. Glad I still have a day job because the IRS would laugh if I wrote writer on my tax forms.

  4. I feel like I haven't loved writing for a while, which is kind of why I've been avoiding it. But I certainly don't love not writing, either.

    1. I read once that even though it's sometimes a struggle to write, it feels much worse not to write.

  5. I wish the IRS considered me a professional writer. LOL

I still love writing. Even though it's harder and comes with a lot more (editing, publishing, marketing l), I still love it. :)

  6. I do love what I do. I don't always love how stupid it sometimes makes me feel, but I do love it. I'm a lot unhappier when I'm not writing.

    1. Loving something that makes us crazy? Hmm, sounds like what my husband would say about me. :)

  7. My writing is just a tiny bit of added income right now, so I don't get to put writer on my taxes. ^^;;

  8. I love it when I get to do my own thing, be it writing or even editing.

But the writing I have to do to pay the bills - ick. I'm grateful to be a working writer, but one day I hope it will all be fiction.

  9. Stephen King's ON Writing is one of the best books I've ever read.

    1. It's one of my favorite books on the craft. I also have it on CD/Audio - it's awesome to hear it read in his own voice.

  10. Like most things, my love of writing ebbs and flows. Right now, I love it a lot.

  11. Me too. I feel like there is so much more to learn about the craft. On it. :-)
