Motivational Monday

TO AN OUTSIDER, I JUST SEEM LIKE
A LIST OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
TO ME, ALL THERE IS
IS HOW OFTEN I FAIL.
(Junot Diaz)

This is definitely true for me. How about for you?

Hmm, maybe we need to start looking at ourselves as outsiders do. Maybe then we'd truly see and appreciate how wonderful and successful we really are . . . .

  1. It is true. We present our best to the world and it sees the positive. But within, we focus on the negative.

  2. I don't remember the exact quote but there is one about comparing our bloopers to everybody else's highlight reel--we don't know everybody else's attempts and failures, eh?

    1. I can't remember the exact quote either, Hart, but it's a good one and so true.

  3. I feel the same way. Maybe that's why I'm turned off by compliments. They just make me feel awkward, like I can't possibly imagine why I'm getting them.

    1. The older I get, the better I'm getting at accepting compliments. Still not great at it, but working on it. :)

  4. That's an attitude I've been fighting for a long time. I think the key is getting to the point where we can honestly rejoice in other's successes, and then there is no competition. We can be one another's cheerleaders without resentment...but it definitely takes a TON on mental conditioning to get to that point, eh?

    1. I'm at the point where I think I'd rather do more physical conditioning than any more mental conditioning - my brain hurts. :)

  5. Yeah. Definitely true for me. Wish I could say otherwise. Wait...did I just do it again?

  6. It is easier to look at our failures than our accomplishments. We need to change that!

  7. This so fits into my post today. I've spent the last month brooding over failures and not celebrating my successes.

    1. I'm trying to make more of a point to celebrate my successes, no matter how "small" I think they are.

  8. Ouch. Hits a little too close to home...I would feel better with a few more accomplishments under my belt.

    1. Hmm.... How many more will you need to feel better - 2? 10? 24? It's a slippery slope....

  9. And going on Facebook makes it worse....This is really a great quote, strikes home to me!

  10. That is a great quote! I love reading the accomplishments of my friends and family on facebook and other places, but it can create a false sense of reality when that's all there is to see.

    1. It's kind of like those "overnight successes" - the ones that often took many years to achieve. :)

  11. Excellent quote! The opposite was a quote I once read, this may not be precise:
We judge others by their actions, ourselves by our intentions.
