Book Promotion Tips and Writing Contests

Cathy Yardley's "How to Create a Promotion Plan 'Story'" and Sharon Bially's "Simple Promo Tip: Call Your Book By Its Name" are two excellent posts about book promotion. They definitely gave me some good ideas, and I hope they do the same for you.

The deadline for the WOW! Women on Writing Winter 2015 Flash Fiction Contest is coming up soon - February 28th! With a literary agent as the guest judge and lots of great prizes, why not give it a try? Good luck!

I admit it. Since my story, "The Empty Nest," appeared in the original Hint Fiction anthology (ed. Robert Swartwood, 2010,) I have a special place in my heart for the form. So this contest, sponsored by West Hartford Libraries, really drew my attention. The deadline isn't until May but why wait? Give it a shot!

    1. I hope you enjoy the Hint Fiction anthology! It was an honor to be included in it. I never thought I'd see my name alongside such greats as Joyce Carol Oates. :)

    1. If the word count of the Hint Fiction contest is too short for your daughter's stories, try WOW - I believe the word count for that one is between 250-750.

Also, if you want, check out my Select Credits page for some other story markets she might be interested in checking out. :)

  7. I'm totally getting into short stories lately, and why not? They're a blast. But finding places to submit them? That part I'm no so sure about. Maybe because I despise querying. Yeah, yeah, it goes with the business. I know. Doesn't change the fact.
