I LIKE LIVING.
I HAVE SOMETIMES BEEN
WILDLY DESPAIRING,
ACUTELY MISERABLE,
RACKED WITH SORROW
BUT THROUGH IT ALL
I STILL KNOW QUITE CERTAINLY
THAT JUST TO BE ALIVE IS A GRAND THING.
(Agatha Christie)
I find joy in the oddest places. I used to think I was weird that such quirky things and small moments would bring me such pleasure, but now I know it doesn't matter so much how or where you find it - as long as you do. And I am incredibly grateful that I find it at all when so many people don't.
Some examples of what makes me smile -
* How the little solar flower on the corner of my desk bops along merrily in the light from the window.
* Pretty much anything Minion related. (The costumes/characters in the Despicable Me Minion Rush game crack me up.)
* The little notes my husband leaves for me. I never know where or when I'm going to find one, but I smile - and sometimes laugh out loud at what he wrote - every single time I come across one.
Where in the nooks and crannies of your life do you find your joy? What odd little things make you smile? Let's pay attention to them this week, and let's look for some new ones while we're at it.
Leaving notes for a loved one is something that is so romantic and should never die! And Larry looks like he's living the high life there :)
ReplyDeleteThe notes my husband leaves for me are sometimes sweet and sometimes funny, and I appreciate them all. :)
DeleteAnd Larry is one spoiled tortoise….
That's nice he leaves you notes.
ReplyDeleteMy wife is really good at noticing those small moments.
It's so easy to forget to pay attention to the smaller things, but those are the things that add up and give every day the potential to be wonderful. :)
DeleteI love my writing room. It just makes me happy to be in there. The first bulbs poking their green shoots through the dirt in the spring always lightens my mood.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about my office. :)
DeleteIt's important to be thankful and take joy in the small things. I find it in watching the birds from our back porch. In a flower, a butterfly... in breathing. :)
ReplyDeleteDeep breathing is such a pleasure! Thanks for the reminder to be grateful that I am able to take such deep breaths. :)
DeleteLike Susan, I love being in my writing room. Even if I'm not writing, I'm just happy to have a writing room.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to have a writing room, too. It's my own, personal space.
DeleteWhen it's a gorgeous Spring day, and I'm out driving on stretch of country road, I find myself enjoying the moment. Just me and the radio flying through the backroads of America.
ReplyDeleteThat really does sound enjoyable!
DeleteI like that your husband leaves you little notes around the place. That's really sweet.
ReplyDeleteWhenever all three cats are asleep in various places around the living room, all loafing and making the same face, that makes me smile. It's cute and it means they're not getting into mischief.
I was never much of a "pet person" or an "animal person" but ever since we got the tortoises, I get it. :)
