Motivational Monday

I HOPE THAT IN THIS YEAR TO COME,
YOU MAKE MISTAKES.
BECAUSE IF YOU ARE MAKING MISTAKES…
YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING.
(Neil Gaiman)

We started the month with a Neil Gaiman quote, and we're going to end with one because I want to know…are you DOING SOMETHING

Have you made any progress on those 2014 goals, resolutions, plans, challenges? Have you tried something…and succeeded? Have you tried…and failed? Either way, you've done something and that in itself is impressive.

No matter where we are in our journeys, in our progress, we are not going to beat ourselves up. We are not going to give up. We are not going to let each other give up. Keep going, keep moving forward, keep trying. The year is young, and we're in it together.

  1. You know what? I really have made progress on my 2014 goals (well, some of them)...and it kind of (completely) worries me. So now I'm waiting for something to go horribly wrong.

    Love the quote!

    1. There's got to be a way to make worrying and waiting on impending doom a goal of sorts - then we'd be able to claim progress on that, too. :)

  2. I made New Year's Resolution to eat more chocolate and I must say...so far, so good!

    1. I wish I had made that resolution! Hmm, it's never too late…. :)

  3. LOL @ Keith's comment!

I've made a lot of progress on my art journaling goal, some progress on most of my others, and no progress (yet!) on one. I feel pretty good. Love the quote!

  4. I am working on my manuscript every day, so yes!
And thanks for volunteering to be a Minion. I will get the badge to you later today.

  5. Doing a little something every day eventually adds up to a lot. I'm of the opinion that if you're going to make a mistake, make a bold one. Just be sure you have cheese on hand for your recovery. =)

    1. Those small positive steps really do add up. I'm with you on the cheese, although I'd prefer chocolate. :)

  6. So far, okay. I'm not getting as much writing done as I want...and the marketing thing hasn't happened for me yet. But I'm putting some things in place for later.

    1. Sometimes taking the time to set things up for future success is better than just jumping right in and flailing all around.

  7. Heh, no problems on that score - many mistakes being made here! I'm basically keeping up with everything I set out to do so far...

  8. I am doing something though I'd rather just be working on something new I have to promote the old.

  9. Love this quote--and despite the tiny terror sabotaging me night and day, I've managed to get quite a few of the January goals accomplished. Imagine what I could do if I didn't have to stop and clean up puppy poop all day...:-)

    1. Yes, but your puppy is SO CUTE! :)

And I bet your new plan re social networking - that I read about over at The Muffin - helped you achieve some of those goals.

  10. I made some progress in my goals, but there's always more to do.

I'm being ambitious (or delirious, take your pick) by planning to finish an adequate first draft of my WIP by mid-year. But you know what, I haven't worked on my writing much this month yet because I promised myself at the end of 2013, after a year of vigrous writing, that I will just refuel in January by catching up on my reading. So come February, I hope to get back to my WIP with a full tank of creative gas!

    1. Hmm, how about ambitiously delirious or deliriously ambitious? :)

I think you have a great attitude and plan. Good luck with it!

  11. I love a new year because it helps me to reset my goals and relight that fire. 2014 will be a good year.

  12. I'm deep into writing my WIP and enjoying it. And making a few mistakes too, obviously :-)

    1. Sometimes it's those mistakes that turn out to be the best ideas or plot points or characters. :)

  13. I've finally made some progress on my WIP so I'm thrilled about that but the rest of my goals have been a joke. There's always next month to get started! :)

    1. Not only next month, but the next DAY. Every day is a chance to start new. (Sigh. I do need to take my own advice more often….)
