Maybe Someday - Every Day Fiction

Halloween brings out the monsters and zombies and creepy crawlies, and yes, I'm scared of all of them. (My Halloween costume should be a chicken suit.)

But one non-Halloween related thing that frightens me is the thought of making the wrong decision. I have to remind myself that I do not make my decisions lightly, that I take many things into consideration, that I am doing the best I can at the time and that's all I can do. Still, it's scary.

So, on this day before Halloween, I give you a horror story of a different kind - Maybe Someday at Every Day Fiction. I hope you enjoy it.

    1. Thanks, Suzi. I know my work tends to be sad and/or dark, but I do try to leave the reader with a little bit of hope, a little it of light, at the end. :)

  2. You know I love sad and/or dark so I loved this story too. I love how you have such a knack for creating such complex characters in such short pieces.

Happy Halloween, Madeline! And I would be the one wearing a chicken suit too LOL.

    1. Thank you, Julie. It's one of my favorite things to do, and I'm pleased that it worked here.

Happy Halloween to you, too, my fellow chicken! :)

  3. Just read your story that popped up in my inbox. Sad, yes, but you perfectly captured the anguish of a mother's tragic choice--and the consequences. Well done, Madeline!

  4. Choices are too often looked at in hindsight. Like you said, we make our decisions based on what we know in the here and now and not in hindsight. We beat ourselves up over bad decisions too often I think.

    1. I think so, too. We usually can't go back and change things anyway, so learning from the past and going forward are often the best things to do.

  5. So sad. Yes choices stay with us, but all we can do is act with the knowledge we have and pray we are choosing the right. Well done!

    1. Thanks, Emily. I think for us writers and creative types, ti's easy to fall into the "What if?" trap of Choice A, Choice B, and what about Choice C and then there's Choice D....

    3. Thanks so much, Crystal. And the book release was a relatively quiet one and just happened Monday, so no worries. If you give it a read, I hope you enjoy those stories as well.

  8. Just came back from reading it. So tragic. So many demons haunting both the woman and Luke.
