King's Speech: G is for GUN

Regular readers of The Shellshank Redemption know how much I enjoy a good quote (see Motivational Mondays) and that I’m a huge fan of Stephen King (see the King of All Days Part I and Part II.) So, for the 2013 A-Z Challenge, I decided to combine the two, using some of my favorite King quotes about reading, writing and life in general. Enjoy!

Speaking personally, you can have my GUN, but you’ll take my book
when you pry my cold, dead fingers off of the binding.
(Stephen King)

As someone who has at least one book in pretty much every room in the house, who has a few ebooks stashed on her phone and iPad, who packs more books than clothes when she goes on vacation…yeah. Just, yeah.

  1. I'm pretty sure I have enough books to fill a second house. Or build a second house. And I'm like you...I always pack more books than clothes on vacation.

  2. Yes, take my gun!
    Wait, I don't own one...

  3. Me too. And sounds sad, but also my laptop!

  4. MJ - on a trip, I can always buy a t-shirt or something but I might not be able to a buy book. :) (Okay, yes, I can always buy an ebook but you know what I mean...)

Alex - me neither, but I like King's sentiment.

    Nick - good point!

  5. Haha, I think this one may be my favorite one yet. I'd now add my Kindle too this sentiment too, anyone who tries to steal it is going to find themselves in big trouble. ;)

  6. Would definitely hang onto the book.

I always say jokingly that my TBR pile is now a room divider. But I'm not kidding.

    The Daille-y News

  7. Julie - absolutely! :)

Barbara - my TBR pile would make an excellent fort. :)

  8. Great quote! But I like to pass books on after I've read them. My dad is going to read Embassytown as soon as I finish it.

  9. Sounds so familiar- I typically pack books before clothes and a toothbrush! :)

    Great quote!

  10. I just had to add a couple of bookshelves to accommodate the books I've been collecting in piles on my current bookshelves. One can never have too many books!

  11. Oh, so nice to find people whose passion is books. My house is full of them, as is my e-reader. And when I go on vacation, I put a lot more planning into which books to take than I do, what clothes or shoes to wear. But now with my Kindle, I can take 300 books with me wherever I go. Such a boon. I'm your newest follower via the A-Z challenge.

  12. Milo - I'm better at passing along books that I used to be. :)

Michael - he really does, doesn't he?

Lexie - I start thinking about what books I'm going to bring before anything else. :)

    J. Keith - I do a purge of my shelves once or twice a year. I have to. Otherwise there would be no room for the tortoises. :)

Cathy - if I traveled more, and by plane, I'd read more ebooks on my iPad. Thank you for Following us here at TSR!

  13. I gave ten totes (the bucket kind not the bag) to good will and I still have books every where.

I wonder how many are on my kindle?

  14. Jai - I hear you! :)

Mood - And I know what my priorities are. :)

  15. I can tell it's all about the Books for you! Another one for "The Pen is mightier than the Sword."

  16. Sue - oh, yeah! :)

Mina - there are a lot of us out there... :)

Valerie - I hope you come back and read - and enjoy! - the rest of the quotes.

  17. Yeah. Books. Don't leave home without 'em. :-)
