Regular readers of The Shellshank Redemption know how much I enjoy a good quote (see Motivational Mondays) and that I’m a huge fan of Stephen King (see the King of All Days Part I and Part II.) So, for the 2013 A-Z Challenge, I decided to combine the two, using some of my favorite King quotes about reading, writing and life in general. Enjoy!
*****
Talent is CHEAPER than table salt.
What separates the
talented individual from the successful one
is a lot of hard work.
(Stephen King)
This quote hangs on my bulletin board. It’s been
there a loooong time. It makes me think about the people I know who are talented
and special, and who basically waste the gifts they were given. I use this
quote as a reminder – okay, as a kick in the butt – to not be one of them.
Loves it--steals it. I like your theme and can't wait to read the rest!
ReplyDeleteI know people like this too. It's frustrating to see someone waste talent like that isn't it?
ReplyDeleteRebecca - have at it! I hope you enjoy the rest of the posts. :)
ReplyDeleteOE - so frustrating! It's exhausting trying to get them to see their own talent, to do something with it, so much so that I just have to stop and use it to motivate myself instead.
Okay, I might have to hang this one on the fridge! I believe it %100. Perseverance, separates the dreamers from the doers.
ReplyDeleteFantastic quote. Definitely going to keep it in mind. Who doesn't occasionally need a kick in the butt?
ReplyDeleteKate - bulletin board, refrigerator, wherever works! :)
ReplyDeleteKelly - I just wish those "kicks" didn't hurt so much sometimes.
I think I'm going to hang this one up too. Love it. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat quote. I must work harder!
ReplyDeleteI really do love Stephen King's philosophies on writing. His book of the same name is just fantastic.
ReplyDeletewhat a great quote from stephen king! a great reminder that hard work is definitely king!

Julie - go for it!
ReplyDeleteAnnalisa - I think most of us can probably work harder...I know I can. :)
MJ - ON WRITING is one of my all time favorite books on the craft.
Nutschell - love that! :)
Emphasis on the "lot" in that great quote.
ReplyDeleteBut quotes like these keep me/us going.

Love it! Hi there! This is my first visit to your blog and I enjoyed it. Please visit us at http://citymusecountrymuse2012.blogspot.com/ and, if you like what you see, sign up to become a member.
ReplyDeleteI love Stephen King too. When we were in Nova Scotia this past summer, we watched them film Haven, which is his production. I've got a blog where I put and inspiring quote and photo - today's is of Peggy's Cove. I'm not doing the challenge this year, but supporting you who are. Pop over for a visit though: http://inspiringthoughtsandpictures.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteBarbara - you know it! :)
ReplyDeleteJuliet - glad to hear it!
Melissa - thank you for supporting all of us doing the Challenge!
New follower here saying hello from A to Z.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned that quote in one of my previous posts too.
I love this quote because it challenges the perception that it is easy to become a published author. I think anyone who is working on a WIP or trying to get published will most certainly say that getting published is hard hard hard!
I heard a coach didn't look for talent, he look for effort. He said he could always teach a bad player if they worked hard, but he couldn't teach a good player how to work hard.
ReplyDeleteCynthia - it's definitely one of the hardest things I've ever done - and continue to do. Thanks for Following!
ReplyDeleteMaurice - love that! :)
That is a great quote. I've learned how the work doesn't get easier either.
ReplyDeleteCool idea for the Challenge. Love your blog title.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read King's fiction in a while, but I read On Writing a couple years ago and loved it.
Talent is an awful thing to see wasted, especially when someone with just a tiny bit (err... me? :P) can hone it over time with regular practise.
ReplyDeleteLove it, Madeline. Great quote Must remember to use it.
ReplyDeleteBTW - love Larry & Mrs Larry!
Susan - glad you enjoyed the quote. Thanks for Following us here at TSR!
ReplyDeleteTim - thank you! King has two new books coming out - one this summer and one in the Fall/Winter. And thanks for Following!
Nick - you have much more than just a tiny bit of talent!
SpeedingTurtle - I'll let the tortoises know they have a fan. :)
