Motivational Monday

LIFE HAPPENED
BECAUSE I TURNED THE PAGES.
(Alberto Manguel)

Do you all remember those Choose Your Own Adventure books? The ones where if you chose to open the door, you were supposed to turn to page 10 but if you chose to go back down the stairs instead, you turned to page 12? (Please tell me I'm not the only one around here who remembers them? I can't be that old . . .)

If I remember correctly (and since I am apparently so old, I very well might not be remembering this right), you had to choose something. You couldn't just sit there and stare at the same two pages for the rest of the day, or for the rest of your life. If you did, then nothing - nothing! - at all would ever happen, in the story or anywhere else. Bah!

This week, let's all make sure we choose something, do something. Go to page 10 or page 12. It doesn't matter if it's picking a different dish than your usual from the Thai place or finally starting that blog or signing up for a belly-dancing class. Just . . . turn that page!

  4. I loved those books too! And I actually picked one up at a garage sale recently, so I'm now the proud owner of #29, Trouble on Planet Earth. I really need to get around to reading it. Maybe I'll live-blog or live-tweet the adventure. :-D

  5. I absolutely remember those! And that's a groovy metaphor for moving on with things. A friend's dad, stuck behind a non-moving vehicle, would often say, "DO something, ANYTHING, even if it's WRONG!" :-)

  6. Jillian - oooh, I'm jealous! :) I wonder who owned that book you bought and what happened to all the other ones in the series...

Mina - ha! Love that! :)
