Welcome to The Blogging A-Z Challenge April 2012! Some of the most popular posts here at The Shellshank Redemption are the Motivational Mondays. So, after consulting the tortoises, we decided to make April our Motivational Month! Please join us for this (almost!) daily dose of alphabetical inspiration. We hope you enjoy it!
* I WOULD BE MOST CONTENT IF MY CHILDREN GREW UP TO BE THE KIND OF PEOPLE WHO THINK DECORATING CONSISTS MOSTLY OF BUILDING ENOUGH BOOKSHELVES. (Anna Quindlen) *
I admit it, I don’t have much of a sense of style. I usually like the outfit the judges hate on “Project Runway.” My hair is short so I can wash-and-go, and my make-up regime mainly consists of me washing my face and swiping on Chapstick (or lip gloss, if it’s a special occasion.) And my home is not going to appear in any interior decorating magazine spread. I have white walls and an old carpet and a tortoise tank.
But.
I have shelves of books that are vibrant with color and texture. They hold stories and memories and special moments. When I run my hand over the books’ spines, I am greeting old friends. I smile whenever I walk into the room.
I am home.
Oh, man, (woman, actually) I really like you! It is a good thing my readers can't see my workroom. They would say, "what a slob she is!" I'll bet you have a clean house though. Not I... I just mostly live in my house and don't worry about the dust or anything else. Thanks for the great post. Best regards to you. Ruby
ReplyDeleteI love rooms of books. I wish I had a library. My shelves are full at the moment.
ReplyDeleteBook shelves and flat surfaces for my projects. Works for me! I'm trying to visit all the A-Z Challenge blogs in April.
ReplyDeleteYES. Yes to all of it. I already have a room lined with bookshelves, a room of stories and comfort and memories and magic. And as soon as we own a house, my husband knows he'll be putting up built-in shelves in every room that will take them.
ReplyDeleteI also just finished reading Ex Libris by Anne Fadiman, which has some wonderful and hilarious bits about home libraries. Highly recommended if you haven't read it.
So glad you all enjoyed this one! It's one of my favorites.
ReplyDelete(Jillian - book, noted!) :)
I cannot live without Chapstick and books. You're a woman after my own heart.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a photo of your book shelves!

ReplyDeleteMimi - uh, trust me, you wouldn't. :)
