EVEN IF YOU'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK,
YOU'LL GET RUN OVER IF YOU JUST SIT THERE.
(Will Rogers)
I'm a person who likes a good list. They make me feel organized and productive. However, making the list is not enough. It's good, it's a start, but it's not enough. I actually have to
do the things on the list. It doesn't mean all that much to write "do laundry" and then not take the clothes from the hamper and put them in the washing machine, etc. It doesn't do a whole lot of good to list all the great story and novel ideas I have if I then close the notebook and walk away to watch TV.
Let's take some action this week. Let's walk a few steps or jog a bit down our tracks. Take in a new view. Breathe some new air. I think we'll be glad we did.
Great advice. I'm guilty of listing goals and then petering out as I proceed down the list. I frequently think about what you say here. Sometimes it's difficult to keep the energy of inspiration at a high level, but one must push on.

I'm a very goal-oriented person, too. But you're right: goals are one thing, taking action is something else.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lee. I do these Motivational posts for myself as much as for my readers. Sometimes all you need to keep that energy going, to keep that creativity level up, are the right words at the right time.
ReplyDeleteMilo, it seems to me that the older I get the more goals I have but the less I actually accomplish. I wonder if it's a question of having too many goals, of spreading myself/energy/creativity too thin and not focusing? Hmm.
