Motivational Monday Quote

WHEN IT COMES TO BEING MASTER OF YOUR LIFE,
YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO FEEL LIKE DOING
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO.
(Mel Robbins)

I know, this sounds sort of depressing but it actually makes me feel better. Why? Because it means I'm not crazy (not in that way, at least) and I'm not alone. How many times have you said to yourself, "I know I should...[fill in the blank] - eat better, exercise, get up when the alarm clock goes off, control my temper, be nicer, clean the house, watch less TV, spend more time on actual writing and not the trappings that go along with writing, etc."

At least we're trying. At least we're striving. To do better, to be better - in our craft, in our lives, for ourselves and for those we love. And even though it's difficult, even though failure hurts and that fall is a hard one, I'd still rather continue to try, to strive, to learn, to grow, to challenge myself than to just drift along and watch my dreams and potential drift right along with me.

This week, let's do something we need to do, even if we don't feel like it. We'll be better off for it.

  1. Hi Madeline,
I'm a fellow campaigner. I enjoyed your posts. Have you read any Sonya Sones? I'm not a big fan of poetry but I enjoy the way she writes.

  3. It's true, sometimes you have to do the stuff you don't want to, to get to where you do want to be.

  6. Okay, okay...if I have to do something this week that I don't want to do. I'll come home from the lake and send my kids back to school. Seriously, I don't want to do it.
BUT...not only do I need to do it since it's the law and the right thing to do, yada yada.
ALSO...I know I'll be able to focus on work and writing once again. I suppose you can't live your life on vacation. (Although lord knows, I try)
    Great post.

  7. I think this was very inspirational! Sometimes it's good to know that it's okay that we're not perfect...we're not supposed to be.

  8. Well, Elena, if it's the law and all... :)

What if doing laundry were the law? Or cleaning? Oh, or exercising?! Yikes! (I would either be the cleanest, neatest, thinnest person around...or in jail.)

  9. Holly, it's taken me a VERY long time to realize perfect is not possible. But I still need a reminder now and then...

  10. "I'd still rather continue to try, to strive, to learn, to grow, to challenge myself than to just drift along and watch my dreams and potential drift right along with me." This needs to be your motivational quote next week! And yes, it's perfectly fine to quote yourself. =]

  11. Thank you, Milo, but I'm sure someone, somewhere, said that much better than I did. :)
