"Hungry" for a First Place Win!

I am beyond thrilled to share the news that my story, "Hungry," won First Place in Writer Advice's Sixth Annual Flash Prose Contest!

I was just blown away when I got the news. This is one of those stories I am particularly proud of. Don't get me wrong - I like all of my published stories, but there are just some that make me feel even better about being a writer. If that makes any sense.

You can read "Hungry" at the link above or here. If you do check it out, I hope you enjoy it and I also hope you are moved reading it the same way I was as I was writing it.

  6. Madeline,
My name is Cheairs Graves and I found your blog through Writer's Advice. Congratulations!! The piece you wrote...well it was pretty darn amazing. It was just such a powerful piece of writing. This may sound strange but I want to thank you. You have a gift with the written word. I am always thrilled when someone who has the gift to write shares their words with others. So thank you!

  7. No, Cheairs - THANK YOU! You have given this writer the gift of knowing her words have touched someone - whether to make them laugh, cry, think, whatever. So often our words and stories go out there and we HOPE they're read and enjoyed but we don't always KNOW.

We here at The Shellshank Redemption hope you'll stop by and visit us again. :)
