I MERELY TOOK THE ENERGY IT TAKES
TO POUT AND WROTE SOME BLUES.
(Duke Ellington)
I used to get a lot more upset about rejections than I do now. Don't get me wrong - they still sting, and some hurt worse than others - but I'm better able to put them in perspective, to look at my work with a more practiced and objective eye. It could also be that I'm a lot older than I was when I started writing...or I've just numbed myself to the heartache...or I've developed a shell so tough the tortoises would be jealous...
Um, where was I? Oh, yes. Today, let's take that negative energy and turn it into something positive and productive. (And, if that doesn't work, go get some ice cream.)
Rejections are horrid, but you seemed to have developed the right attitude. If all else fails, ice cream really does work!

Ellie, ice cream works and so does some form of chocolate and/or chocolate and peanut butter. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite flavor: white chocolate raspberry truffle (Haagen Dazs). You're right about focusing our negative energy on something productive. That's the best use for it!
ReplyDeleteOh, now that sounds intriguing, Milo! A new ice cream/candy place opened nearby with the best ice cream and candy I have ever tasted. They've got a chocolate ice cream with pretzel pieces in it...
ReplyDelete(See, now is this really productive? Exercising would be productive. Cleaning my house would be productive...)
