I SHUT MY EYES IN ORDER TO SEE.
(Paul Gauguin)
I love this line. It's beautiful and deceptively simple. Its complexity arrives in waves of awareness as the reader of it contemplates what it means to "see."
What do you "see" when you close your eyes?
Wonderful quote! I love it. When I shut my eyes earlier today, it was so I wouldn't see the dentist and his white face mask. :) But it was a good time to think about a story I'm working on and how to make that character just a little uncomfortable to make it more interesting. Sometimes I'm too nice!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, Stacy! But kudos to you for taking an unpleasant situation and making it work for you.
ReplyDelete(I actually thought you were going to say you closed your eyes so you didn't have to see all the snow!)
Great quote, and very timely.
ReplyDeleteLast night I was helping my grandson study for a social studies quiz about the history of India. Some of the names were unusual sounding, so I spelled them to him then told him to close his eyes and visualize the words on the paper. It worked!

Hey, Donna - great work with your grandson. I hope he did well on his quiz! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I thought I could answer this quickly but find it more difficult than expected. A month ago I would have answered quickly, the picture has changed and now I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteI hear you, Sally. It's seems like such a simple quote and an easy answer and yet it's much more far-reaching than that.
