Spring . . . Back

Even though we were supposed to spring ahead last month, I pretty much fell waaaaaay back. In time, that is.

WRITING

I'm pretty sure the last time I wrote poetry was when I was in college  - over 20 years ago, people - so imagine my surprise when I managed to create some horror poetry for a contest.

READING

I am so looking forward to upcoming releases by some of my long-time favorite, auto-buy authors: Mother May I by Joshilyn Jackson, The Drowning Kind by Jennifer McMahon and Hour of the Witch by Chris Bohjalian

WATCHING

Movies - The nostalgia volume was turned to high around here as Pretty in Pink and Footloose had me tapping my feet. I somehow managed to feel both young AND old at the same time.

TV - When my husband and I heard about the death of Larry McMurtry, we looked at each other and said, "We're watching Lonesome Dove this weekend." I read the novel before the mini-series came out, and it's safe to say it's easily one of my all-time favorite books. I fell in love with the mini-series when I first watched it back in 1989. Did it hold up for me in 2021? You better believe it! How could it not with Larry McMurtry's writing and starring actors like Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, and Danny Glover, to name just a few.

WALKING

Hooray for progress! When I first started, I averaged about 1-1.5 miles each outing. Now, I average about 2-2.5 miles, and I’m inching up to 3.

Miles walked as of 3/31/21 = 83.6/500. (Click here for what this craziness is all about.)

Traveled down memory lane lately? Seen either of those movies or the mini-series? Made progress – no matter how little! - on any projects?

  2. That's great you're writing poetry again. And awesome how you're walking more. I've started exercising more too.

    1. Good for you for exercising more! I'm enjoying the walking, but I'm getting a little worried about what the FL summer heat will do to my routine....

  3. This is my second reminder this morning to read Lonesome Dove, which has been out there as a "you must read" for years! Now I'm putting it on my library list!

    1. Yes!!! :) You know that question about books you'd bring to a desert island? LONESOME DOVE is easily one of those for me.

And as someone who isn't always a big fan of book to movie adaptations, I really did enjoy the TV mini-series.

    1. I'm even reading more poetry than I used to, mostly middle-grade novels-in-verse.

  5. Congratulations on the poetry and the walking! That's awesome! I keep going from couch potato and physical therapy exercises to too much...I need to follow your example and start with 1-1.5 miles and work up.

    1. Thanks, Tyrean!

It's hard because we want to do more, go farther, go faster. I kept feeling like I wasn't making any progress until I looked back over the last few months and saw that my mileage was actually increasing, slowly and steadily, like a tortoise. Or two. :)

    1. Thanks, MJ! I'll take all the crossed fingers I can get.

Hee hee! I think of you walking your 3 plus miles daily and I wonder, hmmmm, maybe I can get there, too. :)

  7. Poetry can be a lot of fun to write - so much less pressure, I think.

Hubs and I loved Lonesome Dove - book and mini series. I've still got his paperback copy.

Hooray on the walking progress! Every step is a victory.

    1. Yeh for more Lonesome Dove love! :)

Maybe I should start telling myself that every step is a victory instead of what I usually say - every step brings me closer to home and chocolate. :)

  8. I've just finished watching 'Bones' again. I forgot how gross, and funny the series was.

    I'm glad you're on the up-swing. :-)

  9. I've been so swamped with work I haven't made much progress either. Great job getting your miles in! That rocks!

  10. I've been desperate for something new to watch. Perhaps I need to look back to past favorites like you have. Good job on the poetry.

    1. So much new stuff lately - movies and TV shows - have just been disappointing, fallen flat, etc. For us, anyway. We still try new or new-to-us things, but it's nice to have a stash of favorites to fall back on. :)
