I was slightly surprised by one or two twists in Claudia Gray's Lost Stars, which is one of the Star Wars books so, you can imagine, there's a lot of trope and familiarity there, but she managed to do a few things with the characters that I didn't expect. <br />For real gasps though, I'm not sure I've had a lot of those in movies, shows, or books lately. I do like Gotham because they go to some unexpected places every once in a while, and the same goes for Black List - both are pretty dark shows and sometimes the "dark" gets expected after a while.
